Introduction to Internet:

Internet is a global communication system that links together thousands of individual


networks. It allows exchange of information between two or more computers on a network.
Thus, internet helps in transfer of messages through mail, chat, video & audio conference,
etc. It has become mandatory for day-to-day activities: bills payment, online shopping and
surfing, communicating with peers, etc.

World Wide Web(WWW):


World Wide Web, which is also known as a Web, is a collection of websites or web pages
stored in web servers and connected to local computers through the internet. These
websites contain text pages, digital images, audio, videos, etc. Users can access the content
of these sites from any part of the world over the internet using their devices such as
computers, laptops, cell phones, etc. The WWW, along with internet, enables the retrieval
and display of text and media to your device. The World Wide Web. Or ‘Web’ is a part of the
Internet. The Web is viewed through web browser software such as Google chrome, Internet
Explorer, Mozilla Firefox etc. Using browsers one can access the digital libraries containing
articles, journals, e-books, news, tutorials stored in the form of web pages on computers
around the world called web servers-Today thousands of web pages/websites are added to
the WWW every hour. The WWW has transformed industries such as education,
entertainment, communication, and e-commerce, making it one of the most significant
innovations in modern history. It continues to grow and shape the digital age, connecting
billions of people and devices worldwide.

What is a Web Page?


A web page is a digital document that is accessible on the World Wide Web through a web
browser. It is created using technologies like HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) for
structure, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) for styling, and often JavaScript for interactivity.
Web pages can contain various elements, including text, images, videos, hyperlinks, and
multimedia content, mainly used to provide information to the user.
It is contained within the web server, which can be accessed by entering the URL(Uniform
Resource Locator) for that web page, and once it is loaded, it appears on the user's web
browser. Each webpage is linked with a unique URL; hence two pages cannot have the
same URL. The WWW or Internet contains millions of web pages, and daily, a lot is being
added. Tim Berners-Lee developed the first webpage.

Some basic terms that are used with Webpage:

WebSite: A website is a collection of several web pages. These pages are linked together
with hyperlinks. A website has a unique domain name, and we can access it by entering that
domain name in the URL.

Search Engine: A search engine is an internet service that helps users find any information
available on the internet. Some examples of search engines are Google, Yahoo, Bing, It is
usually accessed with the help of Web browser.

Web Browser: A web browser or simply browser is application software used to access the
internet. Some examples of Web browsers are Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer,
Safari, etc.
Web Server: A web server can be understood as a computer that hosts or provide a website
on the internet. It contains webserver software and component files of a website such as
HTML document, images.

HTML: HTML is an abbreviation of Hyper-Text Markup Language. A markup language is a


computer language that specifies how a page should be formatted. With the help of HTML,
one can specify fonts, colors, images, headings, and everything that he wants to display on
a page displayed by the browser.

Web Browser
A web browser is a software application used to access, retrieve, and display content from
the World Wide Web. It enables users to view web pages, multimedia content, and online
resources by interpreting HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other web technologies. Popular web
browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Opera.
Web browsers use the HTTP(Hypertext Transfer Protocol)/HTTPS(Hypertext Transfer
Protocol Secure) protocols to communicate with web servers and display web content. They
provide essential features like a search bar, bookmarks, tabs, history, and extensions for
enhanced functionality. Web browsers are integral to navigating the Internet, allowing users
to explore websites, watch videos, interact on social media, and perform various online tasks
efficiently.

URL
A URL or Uniform Resource Locator is a Unique identifier used to identify and access
resources on the Internet, such as websites, images, or files. It is also known as the web
address. It can help to locate a particular resource due to its uniqueness.
A URL consists of several parts, including the protocol (e.g., HTTP or HTTPS), the domain
name (e.g., www.example.com), and the path to the specific resource (e.g., /page). The
users can access the URLs by simply typing them inside the address bar or by clicking any
button or link web page .
