Assessment Task:
Part 1: Innovation in Health and Social Care
Critically examine innovation in the health and social care sector, evaluating the drivers and
barriers for innovation and enterprise for the enhancement of health and social care service
delivery.
Part 2: Innovation of a Health and Social Care Service
Propose and justify appropriate decisions and strategies for the implementation of an
innovation in a health and social care organisation through the application of innovation
theories and models. To do this you are to propose an innovation in a health and social care
organisation using ONE of the case studies in Section D of the Assessment Brief.
Part 3: Self Reflection of your role as an Innovator
Critically reflect on your learning on the module and experience of innovation in health and
social care. Using a reflective model, analyse your role in bringing innovation to your
current/future work environment.
Part 4: Future of Innovation in Health and Social Care
Examine the future directions for innovation in the health and social care sector and provide
recommendations for healthcare providers and policy makers to promote innovation to
improve outcomes for patients and service users, providers, and communities.

• What were your results of using the Innovation Idea Scorecard which assessed the feasibility,
suitability, adaptability, and potential risks of your innovation?

Implement
• How are you going to make the proposed innovation happen?
• How will you acquire the knowledge to implement the innovation? Is this using new or existing
knowledge available in your selected healthcare organisation?
• What resources and financial support will you need to execute the innovation? Where will you
access this?
• How will you involve and manage stakeholders, service users, patients in the implementation of
the innovation?
• How will you manage the adoption and diffusion of the innovation in your selected healthcare
organisation?

Capture
• How are you going to capture the value from your innovation?
• What value does your innovation create? Think about the triple bottom line theory, you can
create social value, environmental value and financial value.
• How does your innovation contribute to sustainability efforts and align with the UN SDG goals?
• How will you capture and measure the value you generate - Social Return on Investment (SROI)
Value Map.
• How will you scale your innovation and maximise the impact to ensure that your innovation is
sustainable and there is potential for wider adoption?

Part 3: Self Reflection of Your Role As An Innovator (Approx 1000 words)
• Apply ONE reflective model (Kolb, Gibbs, or Rolfe et al) to reflect on your experience of working
together in a group to propose an innovation in a health and social care organisation.
• Within your reflection you need to evaluate the attributes and skills of an innovator and change
maker in health and social care.
• In your reflection refer to your professional background and experience and/or future career
ambitions to progress in health and social care.
• Describe the context in which you currently operate or will operate as an innovator, including the
healthcare system, stakeholders, and patient populations you serve.
• Based on your self-reflection, identify SMART actions you will take to develop your employability
skills, knowledge, and personal attributes to become a more effective innovator and change
maker in health and social care.
• Refer to the resources in Session 8 to support you with this section.
Part 4: Future of Innovation in Health and Social Care (Approx 500 Words)
• Discuss the future directions for innovation in health and social care, including emerging trends
in technology, changing patient needs, and evolving healthcare systems.
• Provide recommendations for healthcare providers, policymakers, and researchers to promote
innovation and improve outcomes for patients, providers, and communities in the future.
Conclusion
• Summarise main arguments raised in the previous sections of the portfolio.
