10. The figure below represents a right angled triangular plot of land PQR.PS is
perpendicular to QR.If angle PQR=600 and PS is 6.5cm.Find the area of the plot. (Answer
in 1 d.p) (3marks)

11.Two interior angles of an irregular polygon are each 1440 the rest are 1320 .Find the number
of sides of the polygon. (3marks)
12.Find the coordinates of the object RST whose image R1S1T1 is R1 (2, 3) S1 (4, 1) T1 (4, 5) after

13.One diagonal of a rhombus is three quarters the length of the other diagonal, if the rhombus
has an area of 96cm2 .Find the perimeter of the rhombus. (3marks)

14.A conical flask with radius 10cm and height of 15cm is half full of water. A stone was placed
inside and water rose to ¾ of the flask. Find the volume of the stone to 3 s.f. (4marks)

15.It would take 30men, 16days to dig a trench 480m long.Find how many more men would be
required to dig 720m long trench in 20 days. (3marks)
16.Given that A (-18, -19), B (-2, - 1) and C (18, 9), express AB and BC as column vectors.
Hence show that the points A, B and C are collinear. (3marks)

17.The line L1 whose equation is 2x+hy =k cuts x-axis at x=6 and cuts the y-axis at x=12, Find;
(a) The values of the constant h and k.

(c)Equation of line L2 which is perpendicular to L1 and passes through point (-2,-5).Giving your
answer in double intercept form. (3marks)

(d)The coordinates of the point of intersection of the two lines. (3marks)

18.A certain matatu ferrying tourists through a National park has a capacity of 43 passangers.It
charges ksh 170 per trip. The vehicle however can overload by 5 more passengers but will have
to pay an extra charge of ksh 200 in every of five view points along the route .The matatu
consumes 1.5litres of petrol per every kilometer and pump price is ksh 40 per litre .The distance
covered in each trip is 40 km.
(a) Calculate the amount the matatu owner makes in a round trip when the matatu is not
overloaded. (2marks)

(b) How much is lost by overloading the vehicle in each trip. (2marks)

(c)Express as a percentage the profit when overloaded over the profit made at capacity in a single
trip (give your answer in1 d.p) (3marks)

(d) If the fuel price is increased by ksh 30 per litre. What is the reduction on profits on
normal capacity for a single trip. (3marks)

19. The height of 36 students in a class were recorded to the nearest centimeter as follows.

20.In the figure below O1 and O2 are the centre of the circles whose radii are 10cm and 16cm
respectively. The circles intersect at P and Q and angle PO1O2=320 .Calculate the area of the;
(a) Sector
(i) PO1Q (2marks)

(ii) PO2Q (2marks)

(b) Calculate the area of intersecting region. (3marks)

(c) Calculate the area of shaded region. (3marks)

21Lisa bought 5 pencils and 6 books from a bookshop at ksh 1800.Njoroge bought 4 pencils and
3 books at ksh 540 less.
(a)Form two equations in terms of P and b to represent a pen and a book respectively to express
the information above. (2marks)

(b) Write the equation in (a) above as a matrix. (1mark)

(c) Using matrix method find the price of one pencil and one book. (7marks)

22.A bus and a car left Kisumu for Nairobi a distance of 600km at 6.00am.The bus travelled at
an average speed of 80km/hr while the car travelled at an average speed of 120km/hr. After
48minutes, the car developed a mechanical problem which took 54minutes to fix.
(a)How long did the car wait before the bus got to where it developed mechanical problem?
(2marks)

(b) Find how far from Kisumu the car caught up with the bus. (3marks)

(c) At what time of the day did the car caught up with the bus. (3marks)

(d) How long did the car wait before the bus arrived in Nairobi. (3marks)

23.From points A and B on the same side of a building and on a level ground, the angles of
elevation of the top of the building are 240 and 380 respectively .If the distance between A and B
is 57m.
(a) Form two expressions for the height of the building. (2marks)
(b) Calculate to the nearest 1 decimal place.
(i) The height of the building. (4marks)

(ii) Find the difference in the distance between the top of the building and the points A and
B. (4marks)

24.The displacement S meters of a moving particle after t seconds is given by s=2t3-5t2+4t+2.


Determine
(a)The velocity of the particle at t=2seconds. (2marks)
(b) The value of t when the particle is momentarily at rest. (3marks)

(c) The displacement when the particle is momentarily at rest. (3marks)

(d) The acceleration of the particle when t=5 seconds. (2marks)
