Naming Appropriate Measure

The document explains the relationship between units of length and volume, highlighting the cubic metre (m3) as the standard unit of volume in the SI system, along with other metric units like cubic decimetre (dm3), cubic centimeter (cm3), and cubic millimeter (mm3). It provides conversion formulas for cubic centimeters to cubic meters and liters, including examples for clarity. Additionally, it defines the liter as equal to 1000 cubic centimeters and offers conversion methods between these units.

NAMING APPROPRIATE MEASURE

Any unit of length gives a corresponding unit of

volume, namely the volume of a cube whose side has
the given length.
In the International System of Units (SI), the
standard unit of volume is the cubic metre (m3).
Metric System also includes,
 cubic meter (m3) used to measure large amount of space
occupied
 cubic decimetre (dm )
3 used to measure the
 cubic centimeter (cm3) small amount of space
3
 cubic millimeter (mm )
occupied
CONVERTING UNITS OF VOLUME
Cubic Centimeters. The volume equivelent to a cube
of one centimeter by one centimeter by one
centimeter. More often referred to as a Milliliter since
it is a thousandth of a liter.
Cubic Meters A metric unit of volume, commonly
used in expressing concentrations of a chemical in a
volume of air.
The formula of converting cubic centimeters (cm3) to cubic
meter (m3) and vice-versa:
Examples:

0.000025
1.) 25 cm3 = __________________ m3
0.0 0 0 0 1 2 (since 1000000 has 6 zeros, move 6 decimal
places
to the left.)

25000000
2.) 25 m3 = __________________ cm3
25000000 (since 1000000 has 6 zeros, add 6 zeros to the
number)
CONVERTING UNITS OF VOLUME
The litre or liter (L) is a metric unit of volume. It is
equal to 1000 cubic centimetres (cm3) or 0.001 cubic
metre (m3).
The formula of converting cubic centimeter (cm3) to liter
(L) and vice-versa:
÷ 1000

cm3 L

x 1000
Examples:

1.) 12 cm3 = 0.012

________ L
0.0 1 2 (since 1000 has 3 zeros, move 3 decimal places to
the left.)

2.) 12 L = 12000
_________ cm3
12000 (since 1000 has 3 zeros, add 3 zeros to the
number)
