ASSIGNMENT

Windows Admin:Configuring Directory


Creating and Installing Active Directory

Aim:Connecting a Windows Server to a client device by utilizing


DNS,DHCP, Remote Services(RDS) and creating,installing Active Directory.

1. Role and Feature Installation


STEP 1:
Open Server Manager and click on Manage and tap on Add Roles and
Features.

Step 2:
Click on next upto server selection in add roles and features wizard.
Step 3:
In server roles select these:
 DHCP Server
 DNS Server
 Active Directory Domain Services
 Remote Desktop Services

Click Next.
Step 4:
On the Features page,select GROUP POLICY MANAGEMENT and
click Next.

Step 5:
In remote desktop services,select these services:
 Remote Desktop Licensing
 Remote Desktop Session Host
 Remote Desktop Gateway
 Remote Desktop Connection Broker
Click Next.
Step 6:
On Confirmation page,click install and after installation,restart the
server.

2. DNS Configuration
Step 1:
Open DNS Manager from the start menu.

Step 2:
Right click on Reverse Lookup Zones and select New Zone.
Step 3:
In the New Zone Wizard,wait for the Reverse Lookup Zone Name to
come.
Step 4:
Enter the Network ID,click Next.

Step 5:
Click Finish to complete zone creation.
Step 6:
Verify the created zone file in DNS Manager.
3.DHCP Configuration

Step 1:
Go to Server Manager,click the flag icon,if any pending tasks are to
be do it by clicking on Complete DHCP Configuration.

Step 2:
Click Next on the wizard.In the authorization session,click Commit
and then close.
Step 4:
Open DHCP Manager by searching for DHCP in the start menu.

Step 5:
In DHCP Manager,right click IPV4 and select New Scope.
Give Scope Name and Description.
Step 6:
Enter the START and END IP.

 Set the lease duration to 8 hours.


Step 7:
Add the Start IP.
Step 8:
Enter the Server Name,click Resolve and click add.
 Activate the scope and complete the wizard.

4.Active Directory User Configuration

Step 1:
Open Active Directory Users and computers.Right click on your
domain,select New and click User.
Step 2:
Enter a Username and Password,then click Next.
Step 3:
Right click the newly created user,add them to the Administrators and
remote desktop users group.

Step 4:Login in with the new user account on the Windows Server.

5. Testing Remote Desktop Connection


Step 1:
Open Command Prompt,type ipconfig.

Step 2:
Open Remote Desktop Connection.

Step 3:
Enter the IP Address,Username and Password.While connected it is
successfully done.
Creating and Installing Active Directory

Step 1: After the installation of roles and features,click on Promote


this server to a domain controller.
Step 2:
In the Deployment Configuration window,select Add a new forest and
provide the domain name.

Step 3:
Set a Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) password, confirm
it, and click Next.

Step 4:
Click Next for each subsequent configuration page until the
Install button becomes active.

Step 5:
Click Install to finalize the configuration.The system will restart
automatically after installation.
Step 6:
Go to Tools in Server Manager and click Active Directory Users and
Computers.

Step 7:
Right Click on the domain,select New and select Organizational
Unit(OU).
Step 8:
Right click inside the OU,select new and choose user.Give the user
details.
Step 9:
Set password for the user.Check the password never expires option
only.

Step 10:
Right click on the user and go to Properties.In member tab,click on
Add.
Step 11:
In the Object Names field,type Administrator,click Check Names and
then click OK.
Click Apply too.
Step 12:
You will get a notification after successful creation like this:
