Q1. Four persons are chosen from a group containing 3 men, 2 women and 4 children. Show that
the chance that exactly two of them will be children is 10/21.
Q2. X and Y stand in a line at random with 10 other people. What is the probability that there are
3 people between X and Y? Answer: 4/33
Q3. From hundred numbers 1 to 100, three distinct numbers are selected at random. Find the
probability that the selected numbers are divisible by 2 and 3. Answer: 4/1155
Q4.A retailer of wrist watches before accepting a lot of 50 watches tests at random 5 watches and
if they are all right, accepts the lot. Find the probability that a lot containing 3 defectives is
accepted by him. Answer: C (47, 5)/C (50, 5)
Topic: Axioms of Mathematical probability and General addition rule
Q1. Show that the probability that exactly one of the events A and B occurs is
(𝐴) + 𝑃(𝐵) − 2𝑃(𝐴𝐵).
Q2. Two dice are thrown n times in succession. What is the probability of obtaining ‘double six’
at least once? Find the least number of throws so that the probability of obtaining at least one
𝟑𝟓
‘double six’ will be greater than 1/2? Answer: 𝟏 − ( ) ; 25

Q3. Two newspapers X and Y are published in a certain city. It is estimated from a survey that
16% read X, 14% read Y and 5% read both the newspapers. Find the probability that a randomly
selected person does not read any newspaper. Answer: 0.75
Q4.An integer is chosen at random from the first 100 positive integers. What is the probability that
the integer is divisible by 6 or 8? Answer: 6/25

3? Answer: 7/18
Q7.Find the probability of getting an even number on the first or a total of 8 in a single throw of
two dice. Answer: 5/9
Q8. The integers x and y are chosen at random (with replacement) from all first digit natural
numbers. Then find the probability that |𝑥2 − 𝑦2| is divisible by 2. Answer: 41/81
