2. Understand the basic characteristics of a typical microprocessor;
3. Be aware of principal input, main storage, and main output device currently
in use;
4. Define the main issues relevant to network environment in modern
organizations;
5. Understand the importance of user interface for IS and the main type of user
interface found today
FILE MANAGEMENT
• The process of organizing and
storing information in an easily
retrievable manner
• Involves creating an organized
structure for file storage and using
computer storage devices, such as
drive to hold information.
DATA TRANSFER
• the secure exchange of large
files between systems or
organizations.
• used to share data securely
among business partners,
suppliers, or government
agencies for cooperative
purposes.
DATA SECURITY
IN BUSINESS
BEST PRACTICES FOR DATA
SECURITY IN BUSINESS
• Always encrypt payment card
information
• Operate continuous training in
cybersecurity to maintain a
well-trained workforce
• Always adhere to relevant
regulations
BEST PRACTICES FOR DATA
SECURITY IN BUSINESS
• Use cybersecurity measurements
• Conduct test against your
organization's cybersecurity
defenses
• Know where your data is and
enforce principles of least
privileges to limit access to
sensitive information
NETWORK SYSTEM
COMPUTER NETWORK
• A computer network is a group of
interconnected nodes or
computing devices that exchange
data and resources with each
other. A network connection
between these devices can be
established using cable or wireless
media. -Techted
COMPUTER
HARDWARE
AND
SOFTWARE
COMPUTER HARDWARE

• It includes the physical parts or

components of a computer, such as
the central processing
unit, monitor, keyboard, computer
data storage, graphic card, sound
card, speakers.
COMMON TYPES OF HARDWARE

INPUT OUTPUT STORAGE

INPUT DEVICE
Is any hardware device that sends data to a
computer, allowing you to interact with and
control it.
KEYBOARD
The keyboard is the
piece of computer
hardware used to
input text,
characters, and
other commands
into a computer or
similar device.
MOUSE
The mouse, sometimes called
a pointer, is a hand-operated
input device used to manipulate
objects on a computer screen.
BARCODE READER
Is an optical scanner that can
read printed barcodes, decode the
data contained in the barcode and
send the data to a computer. Like a
flatbed scanner, it consists of a
light source, a lens and a light
sensor translating for optical
impulses into electrical signals.
MICROPHONE
A device that translates sound
vibrations in the air into electronic
signals or scribes them to a
recording medium. Microphones
enable many types of audio
recording devices for purposes
including communications of many
kinds, as well as music and speech
recording.
JOYSTICK
Often used to control video
games, and usually have one or
more push-buttons whose state
can also be read by the computer.
SCANNER

Is a digital device that

converts films, documents
and photographic prints to
digital images
OUTPUT DEVICE

An output device is a piece of computer

hardware equipment that uses received data
and commands from an information
processing system (such as
a computer or information appliance) in
order to perform a task
MONITOR
A computer monitor is an
output device which displays
information in pictorial form.
A monitor usually comprises
the display, device, circuitry,
casing, and power supply
PRINTER
a device that accepts text and
graphic output from a computer
and transfers the information to
paper
HEADPHONE
a hardware device that
connects to computer, allow
you to listen to audio or watch
a movie without disturbing
people around you.
INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES
STORAGE DEVICE

• The storage devices

are one of the most
important components
of the computer
system. They are the
data storage devices
that are used to store
the data. The computer
has many types of data
storage devices.
INTERNAL STORAGE DEVICE

• are devices that are

installed or prebuilt in a
computer system. These
devices vary in types and
storage capacities.
TYPES OF INTERNAL STORAGE DEVICE
Primary Storage Secondary Storage
• is also known as main • Referred to as
storage or memory, is secondary storage is a
the main area in a storage medium that
computer in which data holds information until it
is stored for quick is deleted or overwritten

computer's processor. computer has power.
PRIMARY STORAGE

RAM Cache
SECONDARY STORAGE
• Hard Disk Drive
This is the computer's main storage device used to
store all data on the computer permanently using
magnetic storage disk.
Types of HDD
a. SATA (Serial ATA)
b. b. EIDE (Enhanced Integrated Drive Electronics)
SECONDARY STORAGE
• Solid State Drive (SSD)
• Non-volatile storage devices capable of
holding large amounts of data.
• Perform faster than traditional hard disk
drives, however they are significantly more
expensive.
SECONDARY STORAGE
• Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD)
• HHD or Hybrid Hard Drive/SSHD or Solid
State Hybrid Drive is a combination of Hard
Disk Drive and Solid State Drive technology.
• They’re bigger than Solid State Drive (SSD)
and faster than a plain-old mechanical drive.
EXTERNAL STORAGE DEVICE
• External storage devices, also referred to as
auxiliary storage, are devices that contain all
the addressable data storage that is not
inside a computer's main storage or memory.
CLOUD STORAGE
• It is a model of networked storage where data is
stored not in the user's computer, but in
virtualized pools of storage which are usually
hosted by third parties.
SYSTEM UNIT
A system unit is the part of a computer that houses
the primary devices that perform operations and
produce results for complex calculations. It includes
the motherboard, CPU, RAM and other
components, as well as the case in which these
devices are housed. This unit performs the
majority of the functions that a computer is required
to do.
SYSTEM UNIT
MOTHERBOARD
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
The PC processor also called the
central processing unit. It is the
hardware within a computer that
carries out the instructions of a
computer program by performing
the basic arithmetical, logical,
and input/output operations of
the system.
Clock Speed

is a processor’s rating that measure a certain

number of information processed per second.
Cache

enables the processor to speedily access recently

used information.
3 MAIN COMPONENTS OF CPU
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) - arithmetic and logic
operations.
Control Unit (CU) - enables and instructs various logical
units, I/O devices, and the computer's memory on how to
respond to program instructions from various components,
as well as the user.
Register - immediate memory , they assist ALU and CU in
different operations.
RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY
RAM stands for Random
Access Memory and is
used as a short-term
memory storage space
for the computer to
place data it's currently
working on so it's
easily accessible.
GRAPHICS CARD
Graphics Card (also called a
video adapter, display card,
graphics card, graphics board,
display adapter or graphics
adapter) is an expansion card
which generates a feed of output
images to a display.
