Sheet 1 Trip Generation

The document is an assignment for a civil engineering course focused on trip generation in transportation planning and traffic engineering. It includes tasks such as identifying intra- and inter-zonal trips, factors affecting urban travel demand, definitions of key terms, and estimating trip production and attraction using provided data. Additionally, it involves fitting a linear equation for trip rates and estimating future trips using cross classification methods.

Dr/ Mohamed Reda Fall (2024/2025) Assignment no (1)

Trip Generation

1- In an origin/ destination matrix of a city composed of 10 zones coded from

(1 to 10), you are asked to identify example cell of each of the following:
• Intra-zonal trips
• Inter-zonal trips
2- What are the three factors that affect the demand for urban travel?
3- Define the following terms: (a) home-based trips, (b) non-home-based trips,
(c) trip production, (d) trip attractions,
(e) origin, and (f) destination.
4- In a city, a trip generation model is calibrated in regression equations using
year 2011 data as follows:
Trip production from zone I =250+0.8* population of zone I
Trip attraction to zone j = 150+ 2.5*jobs offered at zone j
Year 2030 population of zone A= 55*103 and B=82*103 , the number of jobs
offered in 2020 of zone A=18*103 and B=12*103 , you are asked to estimate
the trip production and attraction of these zones.
5- When conducting a survey of a study area consisting of 8 regions, the
number of trips and the number of populations in each region were obtained
as shown in the following table:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
No.of trips 350 450 740 550 400 661 525 700
Population 50 105 340 165 120 180 150 300

Its required to Fit a linear equation relating trip rate and population using
simple regression analysis.

Trip Generation
6- The following table shows the number of current trips and households:
Person/household
1 2-3 3>
Vehicle/household
No.of No.of No.of No.of No.of No.of
h.h trips h.h trips h.h trips
0 1100 220 1500 600 1800 1080
1 950 380 1200 600 120 90
1> 80 100 200 300 50 80

And the number of households in the future are shown in the table below:
Person/household
Vehicle/household
1 2-3 3>
0 3000 5000 6000
1 1500 4000 800
1> 300 700 200

Its required to estimate the number of trips in the future using cross
classification method.
