The Philippines offers a wide range of science schools and programs to cater to
diverse student interests and aspirations, from specialized high schools to top
university science degrees.
Philippines Science High School
System (PSHSS)
1963: Republic Act 3661 established the Philippine Science High School (PSHS).
Purpose: Offer a science-focused secondary education scholarship to prepare student
science careers.
Initial Location: Diliman, Quezon City.
Vision: Leading science high school in the Asia Pacific Region, preparing globally comp
Filipino scientists with 21st-century skills and the core values of Integrity, Excellence, an
Service to Nation.
Mission: Advancing premier high school STEM education for the people.

Special Science Elementary
Schools (SSES) Project
Established under DepEd Order No. 73, s. 2008 and
DepEd Order No. 51, s. 2010.
Started in June 2007 with 57 schools, now expanded to
over 60 schools nationwide in its sixth year of
implementation.
Aims to develop Filipino children equipped with scientific
and technological knowledge, skills, and values.
MISSION
Provide a special curriculum for science-inclined
students, recognizing multiple intelligences.
Promote the development of lifelong learning
skills; and
Foster the holistic development of the learners.
Curriculum Features:
Science and Health is given more time:
-70 minutes for Grades I to III
-80 minutes for Grades IV to VI
Uses various instructional approaches that
address to the learning styles.
Encourages the use of investigatory projects.

Science High School
Established on September 17, 1967, as Quezon
City Science High School.
Became a regional science high school for NCR in
1999.
Established to cater to talented students in
science and mathematics.
