HINTS AND SOLUTIONS

Q.1 Correct Answer is Option (d)

Hint: Since a five-digit number is formed by using digits 0,1,2,3,4 and 5, divisible
by 3 i.e., only possible when the sum of digits is multiple of three which gives two
cases.
Case I: Using digits 0,1,2,4,5 the number of ways =4×4×3×2×1=96.
Case II: Using digits 1,2,3,4,5 the number of ways =5×4×3×2×1=120
Therefore, total number formed =120+96=216.

2) Correct Answer is Option (b)

Hint: Forming a 2-digit number is same as finding the 2-digit number and also it
includes the arrangement of numbers.
So, we can get the number of ways to form 2-digit number from the given set by using
permutation.
Here, we have 5 digits and we need to choose 2-digits.

UDAAN COMPETITIVE EXAM (MATHS) SERIES-2022-23

UDAAN SHEET: 68 CLASS: 11th SUBJECT: MATHS DATE: 28.11.2022

Then, the number of 2-digit numbers formed from the given set without repetition is
5!
5
P2= = 20
(5 - 2)!
The numbers formed by repetition are {11, 22, 33, 44, 55}
∴ The number of 2-digit numbers formed from the given set with repetition
= 5P2 + 5 = 20 +5 = 25

3) Correct Answer is Option (c)

Hint: A three digit even number is to be formed from given 6 digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7.
Since, for the number is to be even, so ones place can be filled by 2,4 or 6. So, there
are 3 ways to fill ones place.
Since, repetition is not allowed, so tens place can be filled by remaining 5 digits. So,
tens place can be filled in 5 ways.
Similarly, hundred's place can be filled by remaining 4 digits. So, hundred's place can
be filled in 4 ways.
So, required number of ways in which three digit even numbers can be formed from
the given digits is 4×5×3=60

4) Correct Answer is Option (d)

Hint: Total there are 6 digits, from which we have to form 4 digits number.
We need to choose 4 digits randomly and form a number without repeating any digit.
In this process, we need to determine the number of possibilities where order does not
matter.
Given, n=6 and r=4
∴ 6P4=360
∴ In 360 ways the 4-digits numbers can be form using the digits 1,2,3,7,8,9.
From these, the even numbers must contain the last digit as 2 or 8.
If we fix 2 or 8 at 4th place, then there are 5P3 ways for each.
∴ Total number of even numbers =2×5P3
=120
∴ there are total 120 even numbers.

5) Correct Answer is Option (a)

Hint: Words start with P and end with S:
When we fix P at the left end and S at the right end, then we are left with 10 letters.
𝟏𝟎!
Hence, required no. of ways = =1814400
𝟐!

UDAAN SHEET: 68 CLASS: 11th SUBJECT: MATHS DATE: 28.11.2022

6) Correct Answer is Option (b)

Hint: Natural science scholarship can be awarded to anyone of the four candidates.
So, there are 4 ways of awarding natural science scholarships.
Similarly, mathematical and classical scholarships can be awarded in 2 and 6 ways
respectively.
Hence, by fundamental principle of multiplication, number of ways of awarding these
scholarships =4×2×6=48

7) Correct Answer is Option (c)

Hint: There are in all 26 English alphabets. We have to choose 2 distinct alphabets.
First alphabet can be selected in 26 ways. Second alphabet can be selected
in 25 ways. Again out of 9 Digits (1 to 9), first digit can be selected in 9 ways. second
digit can be selected in 8 ways.
Thus, the number of distinct codes
=26×25×9×8
=46800

8) Correct Answer is Option (d)

Hint: Here n=3+2+2=7
p1 = 3, p2 = 2 and p3 = 2
∴ Required number of different signals
=7.6.5=210

9) Correct Answer is Option (d)

Hint: In English alphabets 11 letters are there which are symmetric.
So, total ways =11×10×9×8 =7920

10) Correct Answer is Option (a)

Hint: All permutations formed with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (sum =15) will be divisible by 3.
There are 5! =120 such permutations.
Such numbers can also be formed using 0 and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
There are 4×4! such numbers, i.e. 96.
(Factors of 4 for four positions of 0 and 4! for different permutations of these four
numbers)
∴ Total of such numbers = 120 + 96 =216

11) Correct Answer is Option (b)

Hint: On the first wheel, there can be 10 digits.
On the second wheel, there will be one of the 9 digits and on the third wheel, there will
be 8 digits. Therefore, the number of numbers is 10×9×8=720.

12) Correct Answer is Option (a)

Hint: There being 12 friends in the group, each friend must have purchased (12 - 1)
i.e. 11 cards for sending greeting to rest of his 11 friends. Thus total number of cards
purchased by all the friends together is 12 x 11 i.e. 132.

13) Correct Answer is Option (d)

Hint: Since there are five routes for going from station A to station B
So number of ways of going from A to B is 5
And there are four routes for going from B to C, so the number of ways of going from B
to C is 4 Thus using multiplication rule, number of ways of going from A to C via B
is, 5×4=20

14) Correct Answer is Option (d)

Hint: let number of students is n, then number of cards =2×nC2=n(n−1)=1640
Hence n = 41

15) Correct Answer is Option (a)

Hint: Task 1: He may choose the trouser in 7 ways.
Task 2: He may choose the shirt in 10 ways.
According to the product, rule, the total number of different outfits is 7×10 i.e. 70
16) Correct Answer is Option (c)

17) Correct Answer is Option (d)
Hint: First player can play 5 matches with other five players. Second player can play
4 matches with other four players and proceeding this way, the fifth player will play
only one match with sixth player.
∴ Total number of matches played = 5 +4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 15.
Short cut : Number of matches played by n players = n(n+1)/2

18) Correct Answer is Option (b)

Hint: Number of ways in which they can be arranged on a round table = 7! = 5040
Consider two boys Shiv and Anil as one. Now these two boys can be arranged in
6! ways. Also the two girls can be arranged in 2! ways in themselves

Therefore number of ways these two boys Shiv and Anil sit together is 6! 2! = 1440

Therefore number of ways Shiv and Anil not to sit together = 5040 – 1440 = 3600

19) Correct Answer is Option (c)

Hint: Let the four girls be seated firstly. This can be done in (4 − 1)! = 3! ways
Now 4 boys can be arranged in 4 vacant places in 4! ways
Therefore required number of ways =3! × 4! = 144

20) Correct Answer is Option (a)

Hint: The total number of ways is same as the number of arrangements of 4 fingers,
taken 3 at a time.
4!
So, required number of ways = 4P3= = 24
