ECE 2040 Spring 2025 D
Problem Set #2
Assigned: 16-Jan-2025
Due Date: 25-Jan-2025

PROBLEM 2.1:
Determine the current labeled I in each of the circuits below.

PROBLEM 2.2:
For the circuit below (which employs a model for the dc operation of a bipolar junction transistor
biased in active region), IC is measured to be 1.5 mA. Calculate IB and IE .

PROBLEM 2.3:
Use KVL to obtain a numerical value for the current labeled i in each circuit depicted below.
PROBLEM 2.4:
In the circuit below,

(a) Determine a numerical value for each current and voltage (i1 , v1 , etc.).

(b) Calculate the power absorbed by each element and verify that they sum to zero.

PROBLEM 2.5:
Although drawn so that it may not appear obvious at first glance, the circuit below is in fact a
single-node-pair circuit (a circuit having only two nodes).

(a) Determine the power absorbed by each resistor.

(b) Determine the power supplied by each current source.

(c) Show that the sum of the absorbed power calculated in (a) is equal to the sum of the supplied
power calculated in (b).
PROBLEM 2.6:
For the circuit below, determine the current labeled i by first combining the four sources into a
single equivalent source.

PROBLEM 2.7:
For the circuit below,

(a) Determine the value for the voltage labeled v, after first simplifying the circuit to a single
current source in parallel with two resistors.

(b) Verify that the power supplied by your equivalent source is equal to the sum of the supplied
powers of the individual sources in the original circuit.

PROBLEM 2.8:
Calculate the equivalent resistance Req of the network shown below if R1 = R2 = · · · = R11 = 10Ω.
PROBLEM 2.9:
In the voltage divider network below,

(a) Calculate v2 if v = 9.2V and v1 = 3V .

(b) Calculate v1 if v2 = 1V and v = 2V .

(c) Calculate v if v1 = 3V and v2 = 6V .

(d) Calculate the ratio R1 /R2 if v1 = v2 .

(e) Calculate v2 if v = 3.5V and R1 = 2R2 .

(f) Calculate v1 if v = 1.8V , R1 = 1kΩ, and R2 = 4.7kΩ.

PROBLEM 2.10:
In the current divider network below,

(a) Calculate i1 if i = 8A and i2 = 1A.

(b) Calculate v if R1 = 100kΩ, R2 = 100kΩ, and i = 1mA.

(c) Calculate i2 if i = 20mA,R1 = 1Ω, and R2 = 4Ω.

(d) Calculate i1 if i = 10A, R1 = R2 = 9Ω.

(e) Calculate i2 if i = 10A, R1 = 100M Ω, and R2 = 1Ω.
