Task 2
A new mountain bike track called “Dark Forest Pass” has recently been opened in a local forest.
The track is 350 metres and contains many jumps. There is a small café and shop near the
track for riders and spectators to use.

The owners wish to produce a poster to advertise the new facilities and the opening date of the
1st of May.

(a) In pencil, create a visualisation diagram for the poster below.

(b) Make a digital visualisation diagram for the same poster below.

Note: real images can be used in a digital visualisation diagram if the assets are available.
Students should use images that can be used in commercial environments – e.g., they are
creative commons with commercial permissions or royalty free if a licence is purchased.
The aim of the visualisation if to show the layout and positioning of items so alternative
images that give a feel for the product and are to be later replaced with actual images/high
resolution images is okay.
Digital visualisation diagrams are not as refined as a final product. Low resolution stock
images can be used and annotated as either a concept/style idea or that the full resolution
image will need to be purchased for the final artwork. Some refinements that could be made
here include taking the photo on the left across the whole background and removing any
branding/logos from the riders clothes, using a cyclist for the top image that has more
space around, not using an image with beer bottles if it is aimed at teenagers or families
and considering the layout and style of the text. The purpose of a visualisation is to
stimulate discussion and may not reflect the final poster design, which will develop from
these initial ideas.

the diagrams and three ways that they can each be improved.

Suggestions for good features:

 Does it meet the client requirements/brief?
 Does it show what the final product will look like?
 Does it show the positioning of items?
 Are colours indicated in the sketch/digital diagram or annotations?
 Are drawings or sample images able to give a good idea of how the final
product will look?
 Is additional annotation able to explain further information such as how images
or typography are to be used?
 Is an indication made towards text size and style?
 Is appropriate information added in the text and choice of images?
 Is there an appropriate use of white space?

(b) Swap back to your work. Read the feedback you have been given and refine your diagram
based on it.

Task 4
The following asset log shows four image assets that are going to be used in a leaflet that is
being made to advertise events being held in a city.

(a) Below is a table of features that make asset logs effective. For each feature tick whether
the asset log is effective or whether improvements could be made.

Feature This is effective Improvements could

be made

Each asset has an ID 

number so that it can
easily be identified.

All asset filenames are 

given.

All assets have clear 

descriptions. (Asset 4 doesn’t)

All assets clearly give 

the image size. (Asset 3 is not clear, as
‘large’ is not defined)

All image sources are 

clear. (Asset 1 doesn’t give the
source – just the status
that it has been taken.
Asset 3 gives the image
library, but there is no
URL for the image and
no ID number)

5
Worksheet 6 Visualisation diagrams & asset logs
Unit R093 Pack B Pre-production planning

Legal issues are clearly 

covered for all images. (Asset 3 – no
information has been
given about whether
payment is required or
has been made. Image
libraries will have
different terms and
conditions.)

Uses for each image 

are clear. (Asset 1 – no description
of where the asset is
used has been given.

Students only need to tick appropriate boxes; they do not need to explain what the
problems are in the table (however they will need to identify the problems for their
improvements in part (b)).

(b) Based on your answers in part (a), describe how the asset log could be improved.
Asset 1: Explain the source of the image – e.g., ‘original commissioned photo’. Explain
clearly where it is used – e.g., ‘Front page of leaflet’.
Asset 3: Give the pixel dimensions of the image, or possibly the physical size and
resolution, e.g., 1920x1080px.
Give the image ID for the image library or the web address for the image, such as., Alamy:
CER3EA.
Give more legal information about the image. For instance, ‘Image library – fee paid’
Asset 4: Give a more informative description of the image, for example, ‘People relaxing on
the river near a bridge’.
The following asset log shows how the original could be improved.
