• Develop an understanding about how to use SPSS by the hands-on practices in lab hours.
This course includes three hours of lecture and a lab hour, which might seem to be a lot of work;
yet, it provides a unique opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding about the course
material. You are expected to have a good understanding about the basic statistical concepts by
the end of the semester.

Grading, Evaluation and Responsibilities

METU Class & Turnitin

One of your responsibilities in this course is making sure that you have access to
Odtuclass. I will use Odtuclass frequently to post announcements, instructions on assignments,
and other course-related materials. It is your responsibility to check your Odtuclass account in
order to follow the instructions on class work.

Time-sensitive Take-home Assignments (60%):

There will be 4 assignment and no exams. The assignment questions will consist of the
material covered in the lectures, including class demonstrations, activities, and videos.
1
Assignment grades will be posted on Odtuclass. These assignments constitute 60% of your total
grade. You will be given each take-home assignment on the dates given at the very end of the
syllabus, and will have a specific deadline. You are expected to upload your assignments to a
Turnitin link given in the Odtuclass. If you miss the deadline for these assignments, you will lose
one point per each minute that you are late (e.g. if the deadline is on 3 pm and you submit on
3.05, you’ll be evaluated out of 10 instead of 15 points). So, please plan ahead and use your time
wisely! There will be no make-up assignments, unless you have a legitimate reason, which
does not include oversleeping or forgetfulness.

Lab Attendance (Online or face to face) & Lab Exam (20% + 15%):
Through labs in this course, you will find the opportunity to apply what you learn in
lectures by learning how to use SPSS and interpret the outputs. Lab attendance is an important
part of this course, and attendance will be randomly taken at 5 different times, and through the
assignments in the lab. At the end of the semester, there will be a “Lab Exam” that you will be
responsible of everything that was covered throughout the semester.

SONA Studies (5%)

5% of your overall grade is through participating as a participant in the research that is
conducted by fellow researchers in Psychology Department. You can get up to 5 points from
research participation. SONA is a research sign-up system for students to get bonus points for
their courses. If you already have a SONA account, please feel free to participate the available
studies. If you don't have an account, visit "https://metu-tr.sona-systems.com" and request an
account. Then read Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) before starting to use the system. If you
encounter a problem, please feel free to contact SONA Moderator via
[email protected].
Foreign students as participants? For the compensation, please contact me at the end of the
semester so that I can plan the compensation activities in advance.
