I. OBJECTIVES
a. Distinguish text types according to purpose and features: explanation;
classification; enumeration and time order;
b. Understand texts at a much deeper level; and
c. Appreciate learning different types of texts.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Distinguishing Text Types
Reference: English 5 Quarter 3 Module
Materials: PowerPoint Presentation

III. PROCEDURES

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation
Students will play Word Search Puzzle. Search up, down, forward,
backward, and diagonal to find words.
2. Analysis
Read and analyze the text.

Ask: What is the text all about?


What does the text present?
What type of text is this?

3. Activity
The students will do group task.
Directions: Complete the table by writing in the appropriate column
the texts listed in the box.
4. Abstraction
The teacher will discuss the lesson.
Two Basic Types of Text According to Purpose:

1. Factual - are text types that inform, instruct, and persuade based on
facts, information, honest opinions, and real-life situations.
Examples: books, journal articles, factual reports, research works,
Editorials
2. Literacy - These are text types that narrate stories and are often
fictional or products of imagination. They are usually written for
entertainment.
Examples: short stories, poems, narrative essays
Types of Texts According to Features:
1. Explanation - text is written to explain how and why something in
the world happens. It is about actions rather than things.
2. Classification - is a type of text that sorts items or ideas into
categories according to their commonalities.
3. Enumeration - text presents ideas by listing or enumerating the
kinds, characteristics, classes, types, parts, ways, groups, and others
information of a certain thing. These parts are introduces by
transition/signal words, such as first, next, and so on.
4. Time Order - means putting ideas in the order they happened.
Writing about past events need to use time order. Begin with first thing
that happened, then tell the second thing that happened, and the third
thing.

5. Application
Directions: Label the following titles as factual or literary. Write F if it is
factual and L it it is literary.
