Bioinformatics is the interdisciplinary field that combines biology, computer science, and mathematics to analyze biological data, particularly focusing on genomics and proteomics. Major tasks in bioinformatics include Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), structural bioinformatics, drug designing, phylogenetics, and software development. The field employs programming languages like Python and R, along with advanced mathematical algorithms and statistical models for data analysis.

Question
Please provide a brief overview of bioinformatics.
what are your thoughts about it? What are the major tasks we perform here? Bioinformatics The only definition of bioinformatics you get to know on the internet or in your course slide is that bioinformatics is the integration of computer science and biology or a marriage between biology and programming. Another definition is sorting biological data using computer science algorithms and programming.so these are some basic definitions you get to know until you deep study about the field and subjects. this is multi-dimension field which consist of 3 major pillars, The first one is genomic and proteomics side (About DNA, RNA, and proteins), The second one is computer science (totally programing) and the last one is math and statistics. The proteomics side deal with alignment of sequences, phylogeny finding different conserved domains etc. The computer side basically deals with algorithms to solve biological data using different types of programming language. Now a days popular languages are Python and R scripting. The third domain math and statistics are essential tools in bioinformatics now a days involves analyzing complex biological networks using graph theory and other mathematical tools. Genomic data requires advanced mathematical algorithms and statistical models’ methods for data analysis. Major tasks The major task going so far in bioinformatics are. 1-NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) DNA and RNA sequencing by using massively parallel sequencing also know as High throughput sequencing (HTS).it allows rapid and cost-effective sequencing. You can sequence the whole genome and transcriptomes. In this approach the DNA is break down into fragments, then fragments are amplified, and sequence then aligned and assembled. 3 generation sequencing is also introduced in which PCR step is missing direct go for sequencing. 2-Structural Bioinformatics Analyze 3D structure of protein and other biological molecules to study their function using different software. 3-Drug Designing Trying to understand new diseases and designing a drug against them using a knowledge of genomics and proteomics. 4-Phylogenetics Phylogenetics is a graphical representation of evolutionary relationships among different species .by using bioinformatics you can predict these trees. 5-Software development By using a knowledge of Programing, algorithms, and biology you can also design a software of bioinformatics. which can help biologists to do different tasks like sequencing, 3D modelling etc. These are only few tasks there are a lot of more development going on in bioinformatics.
