This Question Paper consists of three sections A, B and C.
Candidates are required to attempt all questions from Section A and all questions
EITHER from Section B OR Section C.
Section A:Internal choice has been provided in two questions of two marks each, two questions of four marks each
and two questions of six marks each.
Section B: Internal choice has been provided in one question of two marks and one question of four
marks.
Section C: Internal choice has been provided in one question of two marks and one question of four
marks.
All working, including rough work, should be done on the same sheet as, and adjacent to the rest of the answer.
The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ ].

(i)A heavy machinery unit was installed in an industrial unit. This machine comprises of three
components. The machine functions properly if all the three components function properly. Suppose
three components are C1, C2 and C3.
The probability that component C1 fails is 0.10, component C2 fails is 0.14 and component C3 fails is
0.05. Based on above information answer the following questions.
a) What is the probability that the machine fails due to failure of exactly one component?
b) What is the probability that machine fails due to failure of all three components?
c) What is the probability that the machine will not function properly?

(ii) A building contractor undertakes a job to construct 4 flats on a plot along with parking area.
Due to strike the probability of many construction workers not being present for the job is 0.65. The
probability that many are not present and still the work gets completed on time is 0.35. The probability that
work will be completed on time when all workers are present is 0.80.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions.
a) What is the probability that all the workers are present for the job?
b) What is the probability that construction will be completed on time.
c) What is the probability that many workers were not present given that construction work is
completed on time.

A diet is to contain 30 units of vitamin A, 40 units of vitamin B and 20 units of vitamin C. Three
types of foods F1, F2 and F3 are available. One unit of food F1 contain 3 units of vitamin A, 2 units of
vitamin B and 1 unit of vitamin C. One unit of food F2 contains 1 unit of vitamin A, 2 units of
vitamin B and 1 unit of vitamin C. One unit of food F3 contains 5 units of vitamin A, 3 units of vitamin B
and 2 units of vitamin C.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions :

iii) Solve the system of equation by using matrix method.

(ii)Mr.Dhar is an architect .He designed a building and provided an entry door in the shape of a rectangle
surmounted by semi-circular opening. The perimeter of the door is 10 m.

Based on the above information answer the following questions:


a) If 2x metres and y metres be the breadth and height of the rectangular part of the door,then find y in
terms of x.
b) If A is the area enclosed by the door, then find A in terms of x.
c) Find the width of the door to allow maximum air flow inside the building.

In a game a man wins ₹ 8 for getting a number greater than 3 and loses ₹3 otherwise ,when a fair die

A company manufactures two types of novelty souvenirs made of plywood. Souvenirs of type A

minutes each for cutting and 8 minutes each for assembling. There are 3 hours 20 minutes for cutting and 4
hours available for assembling. The profit is ₹50 each for type A and ₹60 each for type B souvenirs. Then
formulate this problem as a linear programming problem given that the objective function is to maximize the
profit. Based on it answer the following questions:

b) What will be the values of objective function in the feasible region?
c) At what point the maximum profit will occur?
