Title APPLICATION OF HOTS-SOLO IN CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION

The results of international assessments such as PISA indicate a need to


enhance students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The SOLO (Structure
of Observed Learning Outcomes) taxonomy provides a structured
framework for categorizing learning outcomes, allowing teachers to design
instruction that supports deeper learning and cognitive growth.

The goal of this professional development program is to:

1. Enhance teachers’ competencies in applying SOLO-based pedagogy.


2. Improve instructional strategies that promote students’ higher-order
thinking skills.

This initiative aligns with the Philippine Professional Standards for


Teachers (PPST indicators 1.5.2 and 1.5.3) and supports teachers in
implementing effective classroom instruction strategies.

instruction by equipping teachers with the skills to:

1. Develop formative assessments that enhance cognitive levels.


2. Apply SOLO-based questioning techniques to promote higher-order
thinking skills.
3. Implement structured lesson plans integrating the SOLO taxonomy.

Terminal Objective:
To enhance the teaching and learning process by integrating the SOLO
taxonomy, thereby fostering students’ higher-order thinking skills and
improving their academic performance.

Enabling Objectives:

1. Equip teachers with SOLO-based instructional strategies.


2. Develop lesson plans that incorporate the SOLO framework.
3. Enhance teachers’ ability to formulate higher-order thinking questions.
4. Improve student engagement and cognitive skill development.
5. Monitor and assess student progress using SOLO-based assessment
techniques.
