Is Using Social Media Making People Become Less Social?

It always has pro and contra about the use of social media in people’s life. Some people
find it very helpful in starting social connection, but others don’t. Why? Let’s discuss in the next
paragraph.
Actually social media is made to make easier for people to connect with people without
any limitation such as time, place, or distance. So social media is made to have a good impact for
someone’s life. For example, if you and your family are living in a different country, and you
really miss your family to have a conversation, you’re just able to do that talk by using social
media.
By using social media such WhatsApp to have a video call or just simply a call, you can
connect with your family in real time and real moments. You don’t need to send a letter, or visit
them in their country. It is more efficient, and saving much money.
During covid-19 era, 2020-2021, the use of social media became higher. As you know
that, in covid-19 era, social interaction is limited. People were instructed to stay at home, and did
many things just from home. It was so stressful and depressed. There wasn’t any social
interaction that allowed in real life. But because of social media and technology, people felt a
little better because the present of social media. They still could do some interaction with their
friends and family even thought through online meeting.
So what is the opposite of good impact of social media that can lead people tend to be
less social? It’s comparison and bullying. You can see how some people get really effected by the
influencers or some people they followed in social media. Since most of them just share a good
and shining thing in social media, you think your life isn’t as good as them. That affects your
level of confidence. You see your friend have graduated from university, but you haven’t made
that. You isolate yourself from society, because you haven’t achieved what people around you
achieved.
Bullying is also a reason why people become less social. Bullying in social media is
known as cyber bullying. It is massive, and radical. Even thought the bully happens in social
media, but the effect is real. People are afraid to do the social interaction, or even in worst case
they commit to suicide.
Social media is like two side of knife. Just use it wisely and don’t over use. If you have
some problems because of it, make sure to consult or share with your friends or professional.
