QUESTION 1
1.1 MR Kgomo is 76 years old and earns a monthly gross salary of R49000 and a bonus equivalent to
his gross monthly salary. She contributes 7.5% of his monthly gross salary towards pension fund. He
also contributed once off R95 000 per annum as donation to The Future Orphanage Home. He is
married with two children and a member of the medical aid scheme.

1.1.4 Show how the R239452 in tax bracket 6 was calculated. (2)

1.1.6 Due to the repo rate in the country his salary was reduced from

2.1 Mrs Kgomo, an educator at Mahlakung high school has the data below
that shows the percentage marks achieved by grade 12 mathematical
literacy learners
The class consist of 20 learners.

2.1.1 State the difference between discrete data and continuous data. (4)
2.1.2 Determine the percentage of the data set that lies between the

2.1.3 Calculate the value of A, if the Range value obtained by learners is 56. (3)
2.1.4 Write down the modal percentage. (2)
2.1.5 Define the term mean according to the given context. (2)
2.1.6 Determine the value of B, if the mean value obtained by learners
is 68. (6)
2.1.7 Determine the median of the data. (3)
2.1.8 Determine the probability as a fraction of randomly selecting a learner

3.1 The box-and-whisker plots below show the March Test Mathematical
Literacy results for the class 2024 and 2023 at Mahlakung High School .

The box and whisker plots represents class 2023 and class 2024
respectively.

Use the diagram above to answer the questions that follow.

3.1.1 Write down the five number summary of marks for the 2024 class. (5)
3.1.2 The class of 2023 had 120 Mathematical Literacy learners.Calculate
the number of learners who got a mark that was less than the
Lower Quartile (Q1) as well as the value of Q1. (4)
3.1.3 Calculate the interquartile range (IQR) for the 2024 class marks.

3.1.4 Compare the two box-and-whisker-plots and decide on the class

QUESTION 4

4.1 Mr Kgomo lives in Mokopane, in Mogalakwena local Municipality and


uses postpaid electricity that is sold to customers at a VAT inclusive rate.
TABLE below shows the cost of postpaid units of electricity.

4.1.1 State any TWO reasons why it is an advantage for the municipality to sell
prepaid electricity. (2)
4.1.2 Determine the rates for block 4 in Rands excluding VAT (2)
4.1.3 Determine the number of units Mr Kgomo used if he paid electricity
for R539.27. (4)
4.1.4 In the other month Mr Kgomo used 574kwh units of electricity,
determine in Rands the amount of money he must pay. (5)

4.2 Mr Kgomo’s twin sisters, Basetsana and Liftally received R2 500 each
from their father as their birthday present.
Basetsana decided to invest the amount of money with Bank A for 1.5
years compounded half-yearly at an interest rate of 5.9%per annum
While Liftally decided to invest her money with Bank B for 2 years on
simple interest, at 6% interest rate per annum
Use the information above to answer the questions that follow.
4.2.1 Define the term interest according to the given context (2)
4.2.2 Determine the half -yearly interest rate that Basetsana will earn. (2)
4.2.3 Explain the difference between simple interest and compound
interest. (4)
4.2.4 Basetsana claim that her return on investment will be greater than that
of Liftally.
