INTRODUCTION

Advancements in technology have greatly influenced various areas of human activity,


raising concerns about information security, intellectual property, privacy, artificial
intelligence, and ethical standards. Addressing these issues using ethical guidelines is
essential.

MEANING OF COMPUTER ETHICS

Computer Ethics refers to the moral principles that govern acceptable use of computers.

RESPONSIBLE USE OF COMPUTERS

Responsible use ensures proper etiquette and security, including:

1. Avoid food or liquid near the system.


2. Refrain from accessing unauthorized files.
3. Avoid offensive desktop backgrounds.
4. Keep passwords private.
5. Use surge protectors and UPS for power stability.

RESPONSIBLE USE OF THE INTERNET

1. Regularly check and respond to emails.


2. Maintain respectful and thoughtful communication.
3. Avoid inappropriate content and unknown file attachments.
4. Be cautious with personal information sharing.
5. Avoid quick, emotional responses in emails.

1. Misuse of Computer and the Internet

INTRODUCTION

Protecting data and information from loss, damage, or misuse is crucial. Below are
common ways computers and the internet are misused:

MISUSE/ABUSE OF COMPUTER AND INTERNET

1. Invasion of Privacy/Hacking: Unauthorized access to confidential files or


programs, often for collecting private information or deleting data.
2. Computer Virus: Malicious programs designed to damage data by replicating or
copying themselves, spread via fake emails or infected diskettes.
3. Fraud: Sending false information through emails or lists to collect money or items
from unsuspecting victims.
4. Pornography: Distribution of explicit sexual content on the internet by unethical
individuals.
5. Piracy: Making illegal copies of software, music, films, etc., using CD or DVD
writers.
6. Plagiarism: Copying someone else’s intellectual work without proper attribution,
facilitated by easy access to computers and the internet.
7. Spam or Junk: Unwanted and provocative messages sent via email. Spam filters
can be used to reduce this.
8. Cyber War: Use of computers and the internet for virtual warfare and cyber drills
in preparation for real-world attacks.

SUB-TOPIC 1: SAFETY MEASURES

INTRODUCTION

Accidents are unexpected occurrences causing injury, damage, and harm. In a working
environment, simple safety measures must be proactively observed to prevent such
undesirable events.
Definition of Safety

Safety is a proactive step taken to prevent unforeseen, unpleasant, and undesirable


occurrences.

SAFETY MEASURES

To ensure the safe use of computers, it is essential to adopt the following safety
practices:

1. Maintain good sitting posture.


2. Use anti-glare protection ( To protect your from too much light coming from the
computer screen)
3. Position the monitor base correctly.
4. Ensure a dust-free environment.
5. Keep liquids away from computers—no eating or drinking beside the system.
6. Ensure adequate illumination in the computer room.
7. Provide proper ventilation, such as using an air conditioner to maintain a cool
environment.

EVALUATION

State four measures that need to be taken when using a computer.

Explain the importance of maintaining a dust-free environment when using a computer.


Why is it necessary to use anti-glare protection while working on a computer?

(c) Features of graphic packages: Toolbar, Menu bar, Printable area, Colour Palette, etc.

Meaning of Graphic Package

Graphic packages are software programs used to create graphic images, logos,
brochures, calendars, and other visual content. They use lines, shapes, colors, and
patterns to display information, allowing for artistic creations and detailed designs.

Corel Draw

Corel Draw is a high-quality graphic design software developed by Corel Corporation in


June 1985. It automates artistic functions and is available in various versions, with Corel
Draw X3 being the primary focus for teaching purposes.

iii. Click Corel Graphic Suite X3

iv. Click CorelDraw x3

Paint is a program used to create drawings on a blank canvas or over other images. It
allows editing scanned pictures or photographs.

Loading Paint

i. Click the Start icon at the bottom left corner.

ii. Select Programs.

iii. Click Accessories to see submenus.

iv. Select Paint.

Using MS Paint Tools

 Irregular Selection Tool: Marks areas with freehand selection.


 Regular Selection Tool: Creates rectangular areas.

 Eyedropper Tool: Absorbs and sets the color of a selected pixel.
