2024 VE3-OPS-Group Assignment (Report)

The assignment requires a group report on designing a cloud-based hosting service for e-sports events, focusing on concurrency and distributed operating system technologies. Key tasks include discussing suitable operating systems, designing the architecture for resource management, and analyzing specific algorithms related to process control, deadlock, memory, or disk scheduling. The report must adhere to specific guidelines, including a maximum of 3000 words, proper formatting, and a minimum of 10 APA-style references.

Group Discussion and Research (30%) - 3000 words max,

Your team is responsible for designing a cloud-based hosting service for e-sports events, where
organizers can rent cloud servers to host tournaments. The system must automatically scale
resources based on player and viewer demand, manage server deployments, and provide fault
tolerance to handle potential server outages.

1. Discuss the concurrency and distributed operating system technologies you would
employ to ensure efficient resource allocation, automatic scaling, security,
synchronization, and fault tolerance. Also consider the following questions:
a. What is the suitable operating system classification to implement in the given
scenario?
b. What is the suggested operating system can be used in the given scenario?
2. How would you design the operating system architecture to manage server load, virtual
machine/container management, and ensure high availability across multiple data centers?
a. Draw a diagram to show the design of the operating system architecture.
b. Explain and elaborate the design of the concurrent and distributed system based
on the given scenario.
Consider using technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, auto-scaling, load balancers and
other suitable technologies.
3. Based on the suggested operating system within the given scenario, select ONE (1)
specific topic and explain in detail how the following algorithm can help in the design
and implementation:
a. Process Control Management
b. Deadlock Management
c. Memory Management
d. Secondary Disk Scheduling Management
Report Guidelines

Following are the suggested contents to be in report:

1. Cover page – including list of members and workload and make it as an image.
2. Introduction – introduction about the given scenario with elaboration
3. OS architecture design – diagram of the system based on given scenario.
4. Discussion of Technologies – discussion of technologies based on given scenario
5. Analysis of Techniques – analysis based on given technique.
6. References – minimum 10 references APA style
7. Workload Matrix – list of delegated tasks for each member.

Report Should Follow

1. The report should be typed, well-written and well presented. Submission of reports that are
unprofessional in its outlook (dirty, disorganized, inconsistent look, varying colored paper and
size) will not fare well when marks are allocated.
2. The word count limit maximum is 3000 words.

3. The report should have a one (1”) margin all around the page as illustrated below:

1 inch 1 inch

4. Every report must have a front cover. The front cover should have the following details: -

a) Name of group members.

b) Intake code.
c) Subject.
d) Title of the Assignment
e) Date Assigned (the date the report was handed out).
f) Date Completed (the date the report is due to be handed in).
5. Plagiarism is a serious offence and will automatically be awarded zero (0) marks. Make sure
Turnitin percentage similarity below 20%. Check here before submit:

7. All information, figures and diagrams should include caption and obtained from external
sources must be referenced using the APA referencing system accordingly.

*IMPORTANT*

You must submit your assignment softcopy online before the deadline. Mark for the whole group
will be deducted if late submission. Only group leader needs to submit.
