PAPER MOSAIC HEART
DURATION: 2 WEEKS (WEEK 8 AND WEEK 9)
WEEK 8: Introduction to Mosaics and Heart Design
Objective: Students will learn about mosaics as an art form and begin designing their heart-shaped base.
Activities:
● Warm-Up: Show examples of mosaic art and discuss how small pieces come together to form a larger image.
● Instruction:
○ Explain the concept of mosaics using simple visuals.
○ Demonstrate how to cut paper into small shapes (squares, triangles, etc.) for mosaics.
○ Discuss patterns and colors that can be used to fill the heart shape.
● Class Activity:
○ Distribute pre-drawn heart outlines on A4 or A3 sheets.
○ Students will practice cutting colored paper into small pieces and arrange them around their hearts without gluing yet.
Materials Needed:
● White A4 or A3 sheets for the base.
● Pre-drawn or printed heart outlines (1 per student).
● Colored paper (variety of bright and pastel colors).
● Glue sticks or liquid glue.
● Safety scissors.
● Markers for outlining.
● Optional: Glitter, stickers, or other decorative materials.
Day 2: Creating the Mosaic Base
Objective: Students will begin pasting their paper pieces to form a colorful heart mosaic.
Activities:
● Warm-Up: Review the steps to glue paper neatly and demonstrate layering techniques.
● Instruction:
○ Revisit cutting and arranging techniques for balance and neatness.
○ Show how to paste paper pieces with a small overlap or gap for a mosaic effect.
● Class Activity:
○ Students will paste colored paper pieces onto their heart base, focusing on neatness and filling the outline.
Week 9: Completing and Presenting the paper mosaic heart
Day 3: Adding Details to the Mosaic
Objective: Students will complete their mosaic heart by filling in gaps and adding details with markers or decorative materials.
Activities:
● Warm-Up: Display partially completed mosaics and discuss ways to enhance them (e.g., use patterns, textures).
● Instruction:
○ Introduce optional materials like glitter, stickers, or markers to embellish the mosaic.
○ Demonstrate finishing touches, such as outlining the heart for emphasis.
● Class Activity:
○ Students will complete their mosaics, ensuring no gaps remain, and add decorative elements as desired.
Day 4: Class Presentation and Reflection
Objective: Students will showcase their finished mosaic hearts and reflect on their creative process.
Activities:
● Warm-Up: Arrange finished mosaics on a display table and let students observe each other’s work.
● Class Activity:
○ Each student will present their mosaic, explaining their choice of colors and patterns.
○ Classmates will provide positive feedback.
● Reflection: Discuss what they learned about mosaics and how they can use these skills in future art projects.
