Learning Competency with Code: 02:45 – 03:30 PM 02:24- 03:30 PM
Distinguish technical terms used in research (EN10V-IVa-30) 03:30 – 04:15 PM 03:30- 4:15 PM
I. Objectives Identify the technical terms used in research
II. Subject Matter Research: Its Definition and Technical Terms Used
Analysis: *The teacher will ask some questions regarding the activity that has been portrayed/done by
students.
-Did you have some fun finding the words?
-What challenges did you encounter during the activity?
-What do you think is our topic for today?
Abstraction: Research: Its Definition and Technical Terms Used
1.) Abstract- summarizes all sections and helps readers decide whether or not to read the
entire report
2.) Appendix- contains other related information such as graphs, charts, tables, and lists
3.) Conclusions- provides the summary of research
4.) Data- Factual information (as measurements or statistics) used as a basis for reasoning,
discussion, or calculation
5.) Discussion- Presents the information gathered through the research
6.) Hypothesis- A statement of the predicted relationship between two or more
variables in a research study; an educated or calculated guess by the research
7.) Introduction- presents background information, scope, and focus of the research paper
8.) Literature Review- provides a review of what others have written or researched on
concerning the topic
9.) Methodology- explains how the research was conducted. Its about how a researcher
systematically designs the study to ensure valid and reliable results that address the research
aims and objectives. For example, how did the researcher go about deciding what data to
collect? Who to collect it from? How to collect it? And how to analyze it?

12.) Research- A systematic investigation to contribute to an existing body of language
13.) Results- evaluate the results of the study or research
14.) Sample- the population researched in a particular study.
15.) Variable- any characteristics or traits that can vary from one person to another (race,

statistical methods.
• Explaining phenomena by collecting numerical data that are analyzed using mathematically
based methods (statistics).
2. Qualitative Research
• It often involves words or language but may also use pictures or photographs and
observations.
• Seeks to answer questions about why and how people behave in the way that they do. It
provides in-depth information about human behavior.
