MILLER WALL VOLLEY TEST - BADMINTON
INTRODUCTIONS:

The Miller Wall Volley Test was introduced in 1951 by F. Miller and
published in the Research Quarterly of the American Association for Health,
Physical Education and Recreation. The test was designed to evaluate a
participant’s object control skills, which are important for sports
performance.

PURPOSE: To measure the ability to use the clear shot and volley skill in
badminton
EQUIPMENTS:
• Shuttlecocks

• Rackets

• Score sheets and Stopwatches

• Wall

LEVEL AND GENDER: Players who have

developed volley skill college men and
women.

PROCEDURE: A 1-minute practice should

be given before the first trial, but not between trials. Owing to the fact that
a subject encounters difficulty when trying to look at the line on the floor
while watching the shuttlecock, it is suggested that a chalk line 3 inches back
from the 10-foot line be added, and the subject told to stay behind that line
if possible. This allows the foot to slide as much as 3 inches without
penalizing the person being tested. Any stroke may be used to keep the
shuttlecock in play. A “carried bird” or a double hit is counted as good if the
hit eventually goes on or over the 7 foot wall line.
SCORING: An Accumulative number of hits made within 30 seconds is
the score for each individual trial. Three, 30 second trials are given. The score
consists of the sum of 3 trials.
BADMINTON- FRENCH SHORT SERVICE TEST
INTRODUCTION:
The French short serve test for badminton was created by French and Cooper in 1937.

The subject tries to send the shuttle
between the net and the rope. The
scorer nearer the center of the left
service court, facing the target. The
subject tries to hit and target area
nearest the intersection of the center
line and short service line. Shuttles
which hit on a line are given the higher point value.

SCORING:
Score each serve by the numerical value of the area in which it first lands.
The final score is the total of the values made on 20 serves.

MCDONALD SOCCER TEST

INTRODUCTION :
In 1951 during his postgraduate study McDonald , constructed the soccer skill test for
measuring accurate kicking, ball control and judgement of a moving ball in soccer. The
test was constructed on college men

PURPOSE :
To measure general soccer ability.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED :
• A wall or background 30 feet wide
and 11 1/2feet high
• Stopwatch
• 3balls
• Scoresheet
• Note pad

DESCRIPTION :
At the signal; "go", the subject begins kicking the ball from behind the 9 foot
restraining line against the wall as many times as possible in 30 seconds. The subject may
kick it on the fly or on the bounce. He may retrieve the ball using his hands or by kicking
it, but in order to count as a hit, the kick must be made from behind the restraining line.
If the ball gets out of control, the subject has the option of playing one of the spare balls
in position. The two spare balls are placed 9 feet behind the restraining line. Four trials
are allowed.

SCORING :
The score is the highest number of legal kicks in any of the four trials.
RUSSELL-LANGE VOLLEYBALL TEST
INTRODUCTION:
This test is used to measure ones volleyball playing ability. French and Cooper (1937)
developed a volleyball test for girls studying in 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Russell and Lange
(1940) have slightly modified the above test .

LEVEL AND GENDER:

Recommended for using it on junior high school girls.

TEST ITEMS:
• Serving test
• Volleying test
SERVING TEST

PURPOSE:
To measure volleyball serving.

EQUIREMENTS:
• standard volleyball
• Marking tape
• Score Sheet

PURPOSE:
Serve: Figure to right reflects marking. From the serving area
behind the end line, student completes two trials of 10 legal serves.
Given 2 Trials each Student and 10 Service in each trial. Each
service is scored according to the value of the target area in which
the ball lands, as shown in the diagram. A ball landing on a line
separating two areas is given the highest value. A ball landing on
a side or the end line scores the value of the area adjacent. Trials
in which foot faults occur score zero.

SCORING:
On the serve, points accumulated in the best trial are recorded as the final score.

HOCKEY – FRIEDAL FIELD HOCKEY TEST
INTRODUCTION:
The Friedel field hockey test was introduced by Jean E Friedel in 1956. In 1956 Friedel
recommended a single item field hockey test for high school girls, established on the
higher value of the validation coefficient between the Friedel hockey skill test and the
Schimthals-French ball control test.

PURPOSE:
To measure General Field Hockey skill

EQUIPMENTS:
• A stopwatch

• Hockey stick

• Hockey ball

• Cones and markers

Level And Gender: College and high school hockey players of varying abilities.
PURPOSE: Ten passes or trails are to be
received from the left and right side
which means twenty trails are given to the
subject to complete his/her test. On the
signal, READY GO the subject moves
forward from the starting line, and at the
same time ball is rolled from the opposite
corner of the player towards the targeted
area. Meanwhile, the subject receives the
pass in the target area and dribble with
his or her hockey stick to the end line. Once the subject reaches the end line he or she
reverses direction and drives the ball back to the starting line. If the ball is not driven
hard enough to reach the starting line, the subject has to follow the drive. The time taker
stops the stopwatch as soon as the ball cuts across the starting line.

SCORING: The mean of the total time taken in twenty trails, 10 from the left corner
and 10 from the right corner is the score of the skill test

TENNIS DYER'S TENNIS SKILL TEST
INTRODUCTION :
Dyer's Tennis Skill Test: This test is used to measure tennis skill ability. It was
developed in 1935 by J. T. Dyer on 736 women tennis players of 19 colleges.

EQUIPMENT:
• Stopwatch
• Backboard
• Tennis balls
• Racket and
• measuring tape

DESCRIPTION OF TEST
ADMINISTRATION: The backboard of 10
feet X 15 feet or a wall of 15 feet wide and 10 feet
high may be used. A horizontal line, 3 inch in
width is marked at a height of 3 feet from the
floor which acts as tennis net. Another line is
marked on the floor at a distance of 5 feet from
the base of the wall that is restraining line. After
giving a demonstration to the subjects through
a trained helper, the tester asks the subject to
stand behind the restraining line with a racket in
his/her one hand and two balls in the other hand. Extra balls are also provided in a box
of 9”X12”X3” lying on the floor near the restraining line at a distance as convenient to the
subject. After asking the subject to be ready, the tester gives the signal 'start' and starts
the stopwatch, the subject drops the ball to the floor and plays it against the wall as
rapidly as possible aiming to hit the wall above the 3 feet high net line for a maximum
number of times. After 30 seconds, the tester gives the 'stop' signal and stops the
stopwatch. The subject stops volleying the ball. Each subject is given three trials. The
tester needs three helpers, one for counting the number of ball hitting the wall, one for
collecting the balls and one for checking the violations made at the restraining line.

SCORING: Each time the ball strikes the wall on or above the net line before the end
of 30 seconds, scores one point. The sum of points achieved in all three trials, gives the
final score.
