Answer the following questions for the given triangle.

(i) Calculate tan 2θ.

We will use double-angle identity for tangent:
Tan (2 θ) = 2tan(θ)/1 – tan^2(θ)
Tan 2 θ = opposite/adjacent
Tan(θ) = BC/AB
= 6/8

(ii)Draw the graphs of tan 2θ and tan θ.

(iii)Calculate tan 4θ

We are going to use double-angle identity for tangent to solve this equation:

Tan (4 θ) = 2tan (θ) /1-tan^2 (θ)

We will express the answer in terms of (θ) because there is no specific (θ).

(iv)Calculate sin(A+B)

We will use sum-to-product identity:

Sin (α + β) = sin (α) cos(β) + cos(α) sin(β)

Therefore; sin(A+B) = sin (A) cos (B) + cos (A) sin (B)

Since we do not have specific values for (A) and (B), we will leave the answer I terms of these angles.
(v)Calculate cos (θ/2)
(vi)Calculate sin (α/2)

Task 2

Answer the following questions related to the trigonometric equations:

(i) Factorize 3X2 – 12X + 9.
We can factor this by looking for common factors; in this case it is 3
3(3X2 – 12X + 9)
(X2 – 4X + 3) = (X – 3) (X – 1)

Factor the quadratic inside the parentheses.

3X2 -12X + 9 = 3(X-3) (X – 1)

(ii) Factorize 3 sin2 θ – 12sin θ + 9

We factorize the trigonometric expression (3sin2 θ + 9) as
Notice that all terms are divisible by 3.
Therefor; 3(sin2 θ – 4 sin θ + 3)
Factor the quadratic inside the parentheses:
Sin2 θ – 4 sin θ + 3 = (sin θ )+ - 3 (sin θ – 1)

(ii) Solve the trigonometric equation if 3 sin2 θ + 9 = 0 in the interval [0, 4π]

Let’s solve the equation:

3 sin2

Task 3

Answer the following questions for the given triangle:

(i) Convert the difference of cosine angle A and cosine angle B into the product form of
trigonometric functions of the triangle above.

We have the following information from the triangle;

Angle A = 600

Angle B = 400
To convert the difference of cosine angle A and cosine angle B into product form, we will use the
formula.

Cos A – cos B = -2 sin(A + B/2) sin(A – B/2)

= -2sin(60+40)/2) sin(60 – 40/2)

= -2sin (100/2) sin(20/2)

= -2sin (500 ) sin(100 )

(ii) Convert the products of sine A and cos C into the sum form of trigonometric functions of the
triangle above.

In the 30-60-90 triangle, we have the following information:

Angle A = 300
Angle C = 900

We want to express the product (sin A cos C) in terms of the sum of trigonometric functions.

Sin(A)cos(C) = ½[ sin(A + C) + sin (A – C)]

Sin(600 )cos(300 ) = ½ [sin(600 + 300) + sin(600 - 300 )]
½ sin(900 ) + sin (300 )
½ [ 1+ 1/2]
½+¼

Task 4

Write in terms of tan θ the following double angled trigonometric expression:

Tan 2θ/cos 2 θ(1-sin 2 θ)

We will start by using double-angle identities to simplify this expression.

Double- identities:

Sin 2 θ = 2 sin (θ) cos(θ)

Cos 2(θ) = cos2 (θ) – sin2

Tan (2 θ) = 2tan(θ)/1-tan2 (θ)

Express sin 2(θ) and cos(θ) in terms of tan(θ)

Sin 2(θ) = 2sin(θ) cos(θ) = 2/sin(θ) cos(θ) cdot cos (θ) = 2 tan(θ)

Cos 2(θ) = cos2 (θ) – sin2 (θ) cos2 (θ) = cos2 (θ)/ cos2 (θ) = 1

Expressing back in original expression:

{2tan(θ)/1-tan2 θ/1-tan2 θ/1+ tan2 θ}{1-2tan(θ)/ 1+tan2 (θ)

= {2tan(θ)/1-tan2 (θ) * 1 + tan^2(θ)/1 – tan^2(θ)}{1 – 2 tan(θ) /1 + tan^2(θ)
