COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course focuses on society as a context upon which the schools have been established.
Educational philosophies that are related to society as a foundation of schools and schooling shall be
emphasized. Further, principles and theories on school culture and organizational leadership shall be
included to prepare prospective teachers to become school leaders and managers. (CHED No. 82, s. 2017)
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, student-teachers will be able to:
1. analyze and describe relationships between teachers, the school, and the families and community
that support the school;
2. identify how the teacher’s role is influenced by social and cultural factors that affect education in
schools and their communities;
3. recognize and value diverse cultural values and the students’ learning needs in school and in the
community;
4. list the social factors affecting education and how they can support the development of education
nationally and, in particular, in the grass root level; and
5. explain their role as role models for students and the community in general.
