What is SAP Really?

So ... what is SAP then? Now that you've heard what others think, let's resolve this
question together!

Watch the videos below to get to know SAP better. Simply select the smart phone
display, and the video will start to play.

As the market leader in enterprise application software, SAP was one of the first
companies to develop standard software for business solutions and continues to offer
industry-leading ERP solutions. And it has never lost its pioneering spirit nor its
determination to create trailblazing solutions that change people’s lives for the better.

ERP stands for enterprise resource planning. ERP software includes programs for all
core business areas, such as procurement, production, materials management, sales,
marketing, finance, and human resources (HR).

Just imagine if for all areas and processes different software pieces were used and the
data spread among various databases. It would make the business operations very
complicated. With ERP, companies use software that is integrated and uses one
underlying database, meaning all the data is stored at one place. This way business can
work more efficiently, and the employees and the customers are happy.

SAP began with a small group of friends who had a big idea: a vision of a digitally
connected enterprise. The founders and employees worked closely with customers –
often sitting side-by-side in customers’ offices to learn their business needs and
processes.

Since then, the company has grown steadily, by expansion of its market and
acquisitions worldwide, to transform from a small German start-up company into one of
the world’s largest technology companies and a global leader in business software.

SAP helps companies of all sizes and in all industries run better by redefining ERP and
creating networks of intelligent enterprises that provide transparency, resiliency, and
sustainability across supply chains. This end-to-end suite of applications and services
enables customers to operate profitably, adapt continuously, and make a difference
worldwide.

SAP takes ERP to the next level by using the power of in-memory computing, a
technique of future computing to process vast amounts of data, and to support
advanced technologies such as machine learning, internet of things, and advanced
analytics. Today, SAP has more than 230 million cloud users, more than 100 solutions
covering all business functions, and the largest cloud portfolio of any provider.

SAP is a globally recognized leader in the area of sustainability aspiring to a world with
zero emissions, zero waste, and zero inequality. SAP's corporate sustainability
approach is to create positive economic, social, and environmental impact within
planetary boundaries.
