How to format names when using the Import feature to add users,

groups, or roles into the Cognos namespace.

How To

Summary
The Import feature allows you to add users, groups, or roles from your namespace into Cognos groups or roles
by name, without having to do a search or browse your external namespace. The Import feature provides the
function to bulk-add multiple users, groups, or roles to a Cognos group or role by listing multiple entries by name
at once in the Import field.

The Import feature on a Cognos group or role is different from, and unrelated to, the import feature available on
an OIDC namespace.

For a successful addition of a user, group or role with the Import feature, the correct formatting must be used.
This document outlines details on how to format entries when using the Import feature.

Steps
The syntax provided in Cognos and in the documentation is: namespace/[account | group | role].

• namespace: This value must be the namespace ID set in Cognos Configuration on the properties pane
for the namespace and not the namespace name.

• account | group | role: Specify only one account or group or role from the namespace ID to add to the
Cognos Analytics group or role.

• account: This value must be the user ID of the user you want to add.

• group or role: These values represent the group or role name of the group or role that you want to add.

• Special characters need to be escaped. A surname with an apostrophe, such as O'Brien, must use two
apostrophes (O''Brien).

• Multiple entries are separated by a semicolon and each entry needs to include the namespace ID and
object.
Example entries:

LDAP/userA

LDAP/Accounting Team

LDAP/Report Authors

LDAP/o''brienm
LDAP/userA;LDAP/o''brienm;LDAP/userC
