Digital Artworks vs. Traditional Artworks

OBJECTIVES
Think: Identify the different tools in editing of the Microsoft environment

Feel: Appreciate one’s ability to create an artwork using the Microsoft Paint environment

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Digital art is an art that you can create with the use of a computer while
Traditional art is an art that you can create without the use of a computer. Microsoft
paint is an example of digital art that allows you to do a simple painting, drawing, and
sketching program in all Microsoft Window computers. It contains different kinds of
artistic brushes, shapes, and other tools. The size of the tools depends on how thick
you want them to be.

Digital Art is an artistic composition that relies heavily on


the use of technology in its creation. It comes in many
forms, most often it's either solely computer generated,
drawn using various types of software,
or digital paintings sourced from photos.

Contemporary-Traditional Art refers to an art produced at


the present period of time that reflects the current culture
by utilizing classical techniques in drawing, painting, and
sculpting

Microsoft paint is a kind of digital art software that


allows you to do simple painting, drawing, and
sketching program in all Microsoft Window
computers. It contains different kinds of artistic
brushes, shapes, and other tools.

The interface of MS Paint consists of the


clipboard where you can Paste, Cut or Copy.
The Image bar, where you can Select, Crop,
resize and Rotate an image. The Tools bar
where you can select tools such as the Pencil,
Fill with color, Insert text, Eraser, Color
picker and Magnifier. The Shapes bar where you
can choose Shapes, its Outline and Fill it with
color. The Colors bar where you can pick
Swatches of colors.

III. EVALUATE

Look at the pictures below and evaluate if the picture is Digital Artwork or Tradition
Artwork. Write inside the box DA if it is Digital Artwork and TA for Traditional
Artwork.
Hand on Activity 1: Getting to know Paint

Steps
1. Open Microsoft Paint.
Click on Start ► All Programs ►Accessories
► Paint.
2. Open an image.
Click on Paint icon ► Open ► Select file to be
opened ► Click open or Alt + F ► press O ►
Select file to be opened ► Click Open.

3. Resize an image.
Click the Resize button ► Select the
Pixels radio button ► Uncheck
Maintain aspect ratio ►Input 150 on the
horizontal and vertical size ► Click OK.

4. Skew an image.
Click the Resize button ►On Skew
(Degrees), input 20 on the horizontal
and vertical ► Click OK.

5. Save an image.
Click on Paint icon ► Click Save As ►
Upon clicking Save As, the Save As
window will appear. Find the Folder
where you want to save your file ►
Type the name of the file in the File
name: box ► Click Save. Your file is now saved
