PREDATOR

ALSO: Conqueror, Parasite, Vampire

" A ravening beast?

Predator
A pillaging lord?
I reject both fates."

Some Predators are cursed with

an unlife that demands the blood
of the living. Others have just
learned to profit from human
suffering. In a world where
everything has a soul, even the
most mundane sort of predation
can twist a person’s nature until
they are barely recognizable.

But not all are Predators by

choice. Some fight to change,
whether by lifting a curse,
learning better, or just finding
W worthy targets. In the meantime,
they try to bend their cruel
1 powers to the benefit of allies
and former victims.
O
w What do you take from your prey? What does the act look like?
w How did this curse - or blessing - befall you, if you were ever human?
w Do you want to change your nature? Do you think it’s possible?
w What do you think of ordinary people?

PREDATOR FREE BENEFITS

w Permanently increase your maximum Hit Points by 5.

PREDATOR SKILLS

BLOOD IS LIFE (ç
ç5)
When an ally casts a spell that includes you among the targets, they may choose to
spend【SL】Hit Points to allow you to regain【SL x 3】Hit Points (in addition to any the
spell may give you.)
When an enemy casts a spell that includes you among the targets, you may spend【SL】
Hit Points to deal【SL x 3】dark damage to them.

CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT

You can communicate with creatures of the beast, undead, and demon Species. Even if
an undead creature is mindless, you can learn what it is driven to do, and whether that is
a command or an instinct.

DARK HUNGER (ç
ç5)
When you acquire this Skill, choose a status effect other than shaken.
The first time in a scene that you inflict the chosen status effect on a creature, put a
mark on them. Each time you inflict the chosen status effect on an unmarked creature
that isn’t undead or a construct, you may regain【SL】Hit Points or 【SL】Mind
Points.

IT WON'T DIE! (ç
ç5)
At the start of the round after the first time you surrender in a scene, you may spend a
Fabula Point to rise again with【SL×5】Hit Points. For the rest of the scene, all damage
you suffer is reduced by【SL】before affinities. (You still suffer the consequences for
surrendering.)

SPREADING TERROR (ç
ç2)
You deal【SL】extra damage for each creature in the scene that is shaken (whether they
are allies, enemies, or even yourself.) When you inflict shaken on another creature, you W
may pay up to【SL × 5】Mind Points to inflict shaken on a soldier-rank NPC who isn’t a
construct or undead who can see or hear what you did for every 5 Mind Points spent this 2
way.

d GM NOTES
w Discuss with the Predator’s player what story their curse contributes to, and make sure
that it’s something that your table can work with. Keep the safety tools handy and
balance their arc with the rest of the party.
w While it might not be the main focus, their story is likely to include themes of limiting
and taking responsibility for the harm that we cause to others. Give them opportunities
to resist or give in to temptation, and see how the rest of the party responds.
w Fabula Ultima is not a game about smashing all who oppose you… but now and again
it’s fun to be a Halloween monster and terrorize a crowd that really deserves it. Things
don’t have to be bleak all the time!
w Some people will be terrified of the Predator, while others will be unimpressed. Of the
latter, some will be deluded and others rightfully confident. Be sure to include a mix of
reactions. Characters may even find them fascinating, pitiable, or cute!
w Children of the Night allows the Predator to commune with bats, wolves, leeches,
W armadillos, and other spooky creatures. Like the Chimerist’s Feral Speech (Core), this
creates more ways to get information and scene-setting to the players.
3
d ADAPTATION

w The simplest way to change this class is to modify the Species that Dark Hunger
applies to, and possibly the status effect that Spreading Terror looks for (which would
also change the effect that you are not allowed to take for Dark Hunger.)
• Example: the Volt Thief - in a construct-heavy game, this is an ancient
android that saps energy and computing power from other machines. They
hack into constructs for MP by inflicting dazed, and gain strength when there
are slowed constructs on the scene.
w This Class doesn’t have abilities that drain foes by hitting them because Darkblade
(Core), Chimerist (Core), and Mutant (Techno) all have that territory covered. Consider
adding one of them to get the feel of a more aggressive Predator.
w Speaking of the Mutant - if you’re playing with Techno Fantasy classes, you could
replace the Wolfman’s Rogue Skills with Mutant, taking Akromorphosis and
Theriomorphosis (Dynamotheria, Tachytheria). This would save money on weapons
and give you a thematic transformation!
w If you have multiple Predators and their condition is going to be a major theme for
your game… first, consider if you want to be playing something by White Wolf instead.
If not, take a look at the optional extra Bond rules (in an upcoming Horror
supplement). Just remember: the strength of a Bond never goes above 3, even if you’re
using these!
