2. These devices are Input devices
3. These devices are hardware devices because they are physical to touch and interact with (Hand
operated).
4. Explanation of Labelled Diagram
a. Keyboard
i. Capital Locks: is used for locking the keyboard keys to type only in UPPER CASE
Characters.
ii. Shift: is used for inserting the second Character of Keys on a keyboard. Shift keys
can also change case.
iii. Control: It is a control key and it works hand in hand with other keys to give
commands to the system, though these command varies with the software and
programs being executed. E.g. Ctrl + E is align center on Microsoft programs but it is
export on Coreldraw and other softwares. Control keys can also be combined with
keys like Shift and Escape. Ctrl + Shift + Escape is task manager on windows OS
iv. Windows: it is used to access the Start Menu. Window or Start Button can also be
combined with other keys. E.g. Win + R is the run program dialogue box.
v. Alt: This is a control key with various functions. Alternate can be combined with
other keys like Ctrl + Alt + Del to either lock, sign out, shut down the system. Alt can
also be used on a Microsoft Environment as a replacement for clicking icons on the
menu bar e.g. Alt + F + N opens a new document, Alt + N is the insert ribbon
vi. Space bar: it helps insert gaps or spaces when typing for legibility.
vii. Arrows: These are used for navigation. The arrow keys control the cursor to move
either down, up, left or right.
viii. Number Pad: These keys insert numeric character like 1, 2, 4 etc.
ix. Indicators: These are lights that depict certain activated commands like Caps Lock,
Numbers Lock etc.
x. Scroll: These buttons are also for navigation. Home takes you to the start of a
document, end as the name indicates takes you to the end of a document, Page Up
and Page down scrolls the page up and down respectively
xi. Print Screen: Takes a screenshot of your screen
xii. Delete: Erases characters in front of the cursor i.e. to the right. It also deletes
selected files.
xiii. Backspace: Erases characters behind the cursor i.e. to the left.
xiv. Enter: it executes a selected command or program.
xv. Function: These are special keys labelled from F1 to F12 with special and different
functions depending on the program or software the computer is running. E.g. On
startup of a system clicking F2 will access the setup menu while clicking F2 on
Microsoft word displays word help. Alt + F4 closes an application or shuts down the
system
xvi. Escape: it exits or cancels an ongoing program or command

b. Mouse
i. Body: This is where the mouse is held, it is the case that houses the mouse ball
which is a major component of the mouse.
ii. Left Button / Left click: This executes a selected program or command.
iii. Right Button / Right Click: This displays the dropdown menu which displays other
actions that could be implemented on a selected object.
iv. Scroll: This is used to navigate. By scrolling we can move either up or down a page
or website.
