H. Read the text.
‘‘And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly;
what is essential is invisible to the eye.’’
This is a famous line of the fox, the friend of the little prince in Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s novella.
The little prince is a traveler from outer space. Before the little prince lands on Earth, he hops from
one planet to another. On Earth the little prince becomes friends with a fox. The fox teaches him a
lot about love.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery was born in Lyon, France in 1900. He was a writer and a pilot. In his books
he wrote about his experiences as a pilot. He came from a rich family. He studied architecture at
univeristy, but he became a military pilot in 1922. He delivered airmail over northwest Africa, the
South Atlantic, and South America. In the 1930s he worked as a test pilot for Air France. Later, he
moved to the United States. In 1944 he flew a mission over France but he never returned. Sixty years
later, people learned that his plane crashed near Marseille.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s novella, The Little Prince is still popular today. There are many films,
theatre plays and musicals about the little prince. The main message of The Little Prince is that life is
important. Let’s live it well!
