Title: Five Practical Uses for Computer Vision

Introduction:

A subfield of artificial intelligence called computer vision enables machines to comprehend and analyse
visual input, simulating human vision abilities. Computer vision has many practical uses thanks to
improvements in image processing methods and the accessibility of high-performance hardware. The
five main uses of computer vision technology are examined in this article.

(1) Tasks involving object detection and classification have been transformed by computer vision.
Computer vision algorithms can precisely recognize and categorize objects in real-time, from
smartphone facial recognition to automated surveillance systems. Security systems, self-driving
cars, e-commerce product recommendations, and manufacturing quality control all use this
technology.

(2) Medical Imaging and Diagnosis: Computer vision is essential for medical imaging because it helps
doctors make accurate diagnoses and design effective treatments. Images from X-rays, MRIs, CT
scans, and histopathology slides can be used to identify tumors, abnormalities, and other
diseases using techniques like image segmentation and feature extraction. Robotic-assisted
operations benefit from computer vision algorithms as well, which increase accuracy and lower
the possibility of human error.
(3) Autonomous vehicles: The development of autonomous vehicles relies heavily on computer
vision. Self-driving cars are equipped with cameras that collect and interpret real-time visual
data, allowing the car to detect and identify traffic signs, pedestrians, other vehicles, and road
conditions. By analysing the data and making decisions about the vehicle's steering, braking, and
acceleration, computer vision algorithms ultimately improve road safety and productivity.

(4) Augmented Reality (AR): AR apps combine virtual and real-world elements to produce immersive
and engaging experiences. Devices can observe their surroundings and precisely superimpose
virtual items on the actual world thanks to computer vision. AR applications use computer vision
to perfectly align virtual content with real-world environments in everything from gaming and
entertainment to architectural visualisation and training simulations.
(5) Computer vision is frequently employed in the manufacturing sector for quality control and
inspection purposes. On assembly lines, items are examined by automated systems with
cameras and computer vision algorithms to look for flaws and imperfections. This technology
lessens waste, decreases human mistake in quality control procedures, and aids in maintaining
high production standards.
