1. Click on Machine tab, select Lathe, then click Default.
2. Click View, and turn on Advanced Display, Planes, Solids, and Toolpaths.
5. To turn on/off the coordinate axes, click on the View tab, then Show Axes, or click F9
bu=on
6. To show/hide the axes at the origin, under View tab, click on Shows Gnomons.
7. To start drawing, click on Wireframe tab to start drawing, click on MulL-line, then use the
keyboard to enter X and Z values starDng from the origin. X values represent the diameter
(D).
8. If you exit the above window and you want to open it again, click on View and turn the
Planes on again.
9. For X values, you need to enter the values for the full diameters using the keyboard, for
example, if the diameter is 30, you just type 30 on the keyboard. For Z, you need to type
Z-value.
10. To delete any part of the drawing, click on it (or click and hold the leZ-click and select the
part), then either click the Delete bu=on on the keyboard, or right-click and select Delete
EnLLes.
11. To remove any extra length, go to Wireframe, Divide, then click on the parts you want to
cut.
Now type in order, you need to click Enter aZer each input:
30
z-20
40
z-30

Then connect the last and first points.
Now, we have 3 chamfers 2x45o as shown below:
Then click and hold the leZ click on the mouse and touch the 2 lines you want to draw the
chamfer in between; then accept.
Now, there is a fillet or radius 2 in two spots.
Then click and hold the leZ click on the mouse and move the mouse to touch the 2 lines
you want to draw the fillet in between; then accept. Now, this is the final drawing.
Then click on any point on your drawing, this will automaDcally select the whole shape,
If the whole drawing is not highlighted, exit this step, go to the Home tab, and click
Duplicates,
16. Now to proceed with Toolpaths, it is preferred to work on the lines instead of the solid to
avoid selecDng the wrong enDty, to do this click on the Solid you created and hit the Delete
bu=on on the keyboard, or right click then select Delete as shown below.
17. Now click on the Toolpaths tab, then click the + bu=on next to ProperLes, now click on
Stock Setup, aZer this click on the ProperLes bu=on shown on the new window (steps
1-4 shown below).
Now set the Outer Diameter (OD) and Length, these should be bigger than the required
dimensions. For the current design, OD is 65mm and Length is 75mm. Also set the PosiLon
along Axis to 1mm (this will remove 1mm in the facing cycle).
Now click on Parameters, then turn on From stock and Grip on maximum diameter, then
click Ok.
Then save your file to start the Toolpaths. We are going to use 2 tools, one tool for facing and
rough cut, then another tool for finishing. Also in this design, we will need to flip the
workpiece to machine the other side. The steps are:
18. Facing Cycle: Go on the LHS menu, click on Toolpaths at the bo=om, then right click inside
the white space, select Lathe Toolpaths, then Face.
The tools you should use must match the tools available and installed on the machine. For now,
this tool is the one shown below.
22. Now, change the Tool number and StaLon number to 1, then Offest number will
automaDcally change to 1. Now, change the Feed rate to 0.15, Spindle speed to 200, and
Max. spindle speed to 1500. These values change as per the tool descripDon given in the
tool manual.
24. To check the facing cycle, while on the Toolpaths menu, click on Backplot selected
operaLons, and you can play the video to check the facing operaDon
25. Rough Cycle: using the same tool, right click in the white space under Toolpaths, Lathe
Toolpaths, Rough
Make sure to start from the point where the rough cycle starts (Green arrow), and end
where the cycle ends on the geometry (Red arrow). If the arrow is poinDng to the wrong
direcDon, click on the R bu=on on the keyboard to change the direcDon.
End point
Start point
Now select the same tool we used for facing, but we need to change the Toolpath parameters to
the below (same values we used for facing):
2
3
You may now click Backplot selected operaLons or Verify selected operaLons to play a video
showing the turning operaDons so far.
26. Facing Cycle: to start facing, right click in the white space under Toolpaths, Lathe
Toolpaths, Finish.
And this will automaDcally do the job for you, and you will see this on the screen.
We need to select a new tool for finishing. In the Toolpath parameters, by default the needed
tool may not be on the displayed list, hence you need to right-click inside the tools secDon and
select Create tool.
2
1. Right click
anywhere here
Now the tool you created will be highlighted, then you need to change the Tool number and
StaLon number to 2, keep the Offset number as 1. Change the Feed rate to 0.05, Spindle speed
to 250 and Max. spindle speed to 1800 (steps 1-6 shown below).
1, 2 & 3
4, 5 & 6
Then hold down the Ctrl key, and click on both Lathe Rough and Lathe Finish, then click on
Backplot selected operaLons to check the simulaDon and play it.
If you select Verify selected operaLons, you may run the simulaDon with the opDon of
changing the viewing orientaDon.
Next step will be to Flip the workpiece to machine the other side. Stay tuned for Part 2 😊
And select all the geometry on the screen, then click on End SelecLon
Under Toolpath parameters, use the same tool we used on the other side of the stock, and
change the Feed rate, Spindle speed and Max. spindle speed to the values shown below:
You may now check the simulaDon by clicking Backplot selected operaLons or Verify selected
operaLons,
End point
Start point
Under Toolpath parameters, change the Feed rate, Spindle speed and Max. spindle speed to
the values shown below:
In the Rough parameters, under Stock RecogniLon, make sure to select Remaining stock,
then click Ok.
Now you may run the simulaDon for any of the listed operaDons here.
If you wish to run the simulaDon for all the operaDons, you may simply click on Machine Group
1, then start the simulaDon Verify selected operaLons.
2
And these are samples of what you will see in the simulaDon.
The dimensions of the stock have to be larger than the shown geometry, therefore the diameter
must be bigger than the Max. given diameter (100mm), and the length must be bigger than the
shown full length (100mm), hence let’s consider the stock dimensions to be 105mm diameter
X 105m m length.
Steps:
1. Under Toolpaths, click on Stock Setup, you will get the window below, click on ProperLes
under Stock:
Then click on Parameters, and turn on From stock and Grip on maximum diameter, and click
Ok,
2. Facing Cycle: Right click in the white space under Toolpaths, Lathe toolpaths, Face,
Under Toolpath parameters, select the tool shown below, and adjust the sekngs as
shown below:
Then click on Face parameters, turn on Rough stepover and change it to 0.3, then click Ok,
3. Rough Cycle: Right click in the white space under Toolpaths, Lathe toolpaths, Rough,
And select the shown start and end points, if the arrows are poinDng to the wrong direcDon,
click R on keyboard to reverse, and click Ok,
End point
Start point
Now select the same tool we used for Facing. Under Toolpath parameters, adjust the
sekngs as below:
Then click on Rough parameters, adjust the sekngs highlighted below, then click on Plunge
Parameters (to get the tool to cut the circular secDon),
1
Then click AutomaLcally calculate entry vector under Lead in, and select AutomaLcally
calculate exit vector under Lead out, and click Ok,
Then click anywhere on the circular secDon as shown below, then click Ok,
Then change the thickness from 1.85mm to 2mm, and click Ok,
Now click on Groove shape parameters, and Dck Use stock for outer boundary, then click
OK,
Now you may run the simulaDon to check your work so far.
Now, we need to create a new tool for finishing, under Toolpath parameters, right click,
and select Create Tool, then click Ok, then a new tool is created,
Original PosiLon: click on Select then click on the first point you drew on the RHS of the
workpiece
Transferred PosiLon: click on Select then click on any point on the LHS of the workpiece, and
click OK,
Transferred
PosiDon

PosiDon
Now we will Face, rough cut for the exterior, center drill to work on the interior, rough cut for
the interior, then finish the interior.
7. Facing: Under Toolpaths, right click in the white space, Lathe toolpaths, Face,
We will use the same facing tool we used on the first side, just change the parameters as
shown below, then click Ok,
Then select the tool with R0.8, and adjust the parameters as shown below,
Select the tool with R0.4 and adjust the parameters as shown below, and click OK,
Select the tool with diameter 6mm, and change the parameters as shown below:
And now you can see the center drill on the drawing,
Under Toolpaths, right click in the white space, Lathe toolpaths, Drill,
Now we need to find a tool with diameter 24mm, then change the highlighted parameters,
Or you may click on Depth, and select the end of the drilling process, then click OK,
To complete the interior drilling process, we are going to use one tool for roughing followed by
another tool for finishing as explained below:
12. Under Toolpaths, right click in the white space, Lathe toolpaths, Rough.
13. With ParLal Chain on, select the below path, then click Ok,
Now select a finishing boring tool with a diameter less than 24mm, and adjust the parameters
as shown below:
