YO. GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION

Course : Open Operating Systems (SP2406)
Cycle : Room
Period : 2023
Hours : 3 Laboratory
Career(s): Network and Communications
Administration

II. INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, the Internet has become part of our lives and we have learned to share
information like we never imagined. But where does this ideology of unrestricted sharing
come from? It all started with the idea of Free Software, with GNU/Linux as its main
reference as an operating system. Due to the growing number of users and environments,
there is a need for a greater number of specialists who can manage these systems.

This course will study the fundamental principles of Free Software and its application in
the business and institutional environment; the Ubuntu 20.04 distribution will be used.
Likewise, the student will be prepared for the tasks of use, administration and
maintenance of services that are implemented under GNU/Linux platforms.

At the end of the course, the student will be prepared to obtain the first level of Linux
certification proposed by LPI (Linux Professional Institute), the LPIC-1.

III. METHODOLOGY

The teaching-learning process is based on learning from experience. It seeks to motivate

students through situations close to reality and encourage reflection for problem solving
in which the acquired knowledge is applied in a practical way.

Course learning is consolidated through the development of an applied research project

advised by the teacher.

This methodology helps students to be the protagonists of their individual and

collaborative learning, while the teacher assumes the role of planner, facilitator and guide,
creating scenarios that allow students to acquire professional skills.

IV. COURSE ACHIEVEMENT

At the end of the course, the student will be able to design, install, configure, implement
and secure services using GNU/Linux as the base platform for servers and integration with
Windows systems, making the most of resources. Likewise, the student will be able to
successfully complete the LPIC-1 certification: Junior Professional in Linux.
