REMEDIAL ASSIGNMENT PUT

Course B.Tech (CSE/DS)
Subject Name & Code Mathematics IV(BAS303)
SEM & Section III Sem
Faculty Name Dr. Alok Srivastava, Dr. Bertilla
Date of Given 17/1/2025

(1) (i) Solve 𝑥𝑧𝑝 + 𝑦𝑧𝑞 = 𝑥 2

(ii) Find the complete integral of 𝑧𝑝𝑞 = 𝑝 + 𝑞
𝜕2 𝑢 𝜕2 𝑢
(2) (i) The vibrations of an elastic string is governed by the PDE 𝜕𝑡 2 = 𝜕𝑥 2 . The length of the string is 𝜋 and
the ends are fixed. The initial velocity is zero and the initial deflection is
𝑢(𝑥, 0) = 2(sin 𝑥 + sin 3𝑥).Find the deflection 𝑢(𝑥, 𝑡) of the vibrating string.
𝜕2 𝑢 𝜕2 𝑢
(ii) Solve 𝜕𝑥 2 + 𝜕𝑦2 = 0 which satisfies the conditions
𝑛𝜋𝑥
𝑢(0, 𝑦) = 𝑢(𝑙, 𝑦) = 𝑢(𝑥, 0) = 0 and 𝑢(𝑥, 𝑎) = sin
𝑙

(3) (i) Use the method of least squares to fit the curve 𝑦 = 𝑎𝑏 𝑥 for the following data:

𝑥 2 3 4 5 6

𝑦 144 172.8 207.4 248.8 298.5

(ii) Find the multiple regression equation of 𝑋1 on 𝑋2 and 𝑋3 from the data given below:

𝑋1 3 5 6 8 12 10
𝑋2 10 10 5 7 5 2
𝑋3 20 25 15 16 15 2

(4) (i) A random variable 𝑥 has the density function 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑘 1+𝑥 2
, −∞ < 𝑥 < ∞. Determine 𝑘 and the
distribution function.
(ii) Find 𝐸(𝑥), 𝐸(𝑥 2 ), 𝐸{(𝑥 − ̅̅̅
𝑥) 2 } for the following probability distribution:

𝑥 8 12 16 20
𝑝(𝑥) 1/8 1/6 3/8 1/4

(5) (i) The average income of persons was 210 with a S.D. of 10 in sample of 100 people of a city. For another
sample of 150 persons the average income was 220 with S.D. of 12. The S.D. of income of the people of
the city was 11. Test whether there is any significance difference between the average incomes of the
localities.

(ii) Samples of sizes 10 and 14 were taken from two normal populations with S.D 3.5 and 5.2. The sample
means were found to be 20.3 and 18.6. Test whether the means of the two populations are the same at 5%
level. (𝑡0.05 = 2.0739).
