• Model dimensions: Retrieved from model.


• Drawing dimensions: Created directly on drawing.
• Two ways to add model dimensions:
• Display all model dimensions in a new view while creating it.
• Display selected dimensions on existing views.

• To display all model dimensions in a view, select All Model Dimensions when creating the view.
• A model dimension can only be displayed in one view at a time.
• A model dimension can be displayed in an orthographic or isometric view.

• To display model dimensions selectively, right-click and select Retrieve Model Annotations or
click (on the Annotate tab) and select the required dimensions.

• Edit Model Dimensions


• You can edit model dimensions in a drawing.
• Right-click on a dimension and select Edit Model Dimension.
• To prevent edits in a drawing, clear Enable part modification from within drawings
in the Application Options dialog box>Drawing tab.

Drawing Dimensions

• Drawing dimensions are dependent on the part and their value


cannot be changed.
• If the part changes, the drawing dimension updates automatically.
• General: Click (Dimension).
• Measurement tools can be used in drawings but are temporary and
DO NOT create dimensions.

• General Isometric: Click (General).

• Foreshortened: Click (General).


• To add text, double-click on the dimension value and enter text
in the Edit Dimension dialog box.

• Baseline: Click (Baseline).

Drawing Sheets
• An unlimited number of sheets can be added to a drawing.
• There are two methods to add sheets, depending on if you want to use the default sheet format
or a new one:
Method 1 (uses the same format as the currently active sheet):
• Right-click in graphics window and select New Sheet.
• In the Place Views tab>Sheets panel, click (New Sheet).
• Right-click on the drawing name in the Model browser and select New Sheet.
Method 2 (assigns a new sheet format):
• Locate the required sheet format, right-click, and select New Sheet.

• Double-click on the sheet name in the Model browser to activate the sheet.

• To delete a sheet: Right-click on the sheet name in the Model
browser and select Delete. Expand options to delete multiple
pages.
• To duplicate a view on a sheet: Select it and right-click to use
Copy and Paste commands.
• To copy a view between sheets: Select it, right-click, and select
Copy. Activate the new sheet, right-click, and select Paste.
• To move a view between sheets: Select it in the Model browser
and drag to the new sheet.

Drawing Sheets
• To make changes to a sheet, right-click on the sheet name and select Edit Sheet.
• You can replace the existing title block and drawing border on a sheet by deleting them and
assigning new ones.

Drawing Sheets
• To change sheet color: In Document Settings >Sheet tab, select Sheet and assign a new color.

• Drawing sheet can be saved as a sheet format in the existing drawing by right-clicking on the sheet name
in the Model browser and selecting Create Sheet Format.
• New sheet formats are added to the Drawing Resources>Sheet Formats node.
• To include any custom sheet formats in a drawing template, you must edit the template or create a new template
with the new sheet format included.

Parts List
• A parts list is a list of all components in an assembly.
• Parts list can be added with or without an assembly view.
• Multiple parts lists can exist in a drawing.

To create a parts list:


1. In the Annotate tab>Table panel, click (Parts List).
2. Select a view or browse and select an assembly file.
3. Define options in the Parts List dialog box.
4. Click OK.

• Select the list, right-click, and select Edit Parts List.


• Buttons along the top provide editing tools (e.g., adding columns).
• Right-click provides additional options.

• Tables can be wrapped using the Wrap Table at Row option in the Parts List dialog box.

• Tables can be split using the Table>Split Table option in the parts list.
• Tables can be split multiple times and portions moved to different sheets.
• Right-click in the table and select Table>Un-split Table to unsplit.

• In the Annotate tab>Table panel, click (Balloon) to place balloons individually.


• In the Annotate tab>Table panel, click (Auto Balloon) to place balloons globally on all parts in a view.

Define Styles and Standards
• Controls the appearance of many items.
• Autodesk Inventor includes ANSI, ISO, and JIS drafting standards.
• In the Manage tab>Styles and Standards panel, click (Style Editor).
• You can reference one or more styles from this library. Changes made to a style reflect in all files that
reference it.
• Styles and standards can also be unique to a file.

• Standards are composed of the styles assigned for the various annotation types.
• The active standard is identified in bold in the dialog box.

• Columns describe the use of a style in the drawing (Name, Location, In Use, and Changes).

• Style changes are saved to the active file. To save to a style library, right-click on the style and select
Save to Style Library.
• To replace local changes with the settings from the style library, right-click on the style and select
Update Style.

Drawing View Hatching
• The default hatch pattern is set in the Hatch object in the Style and Standard Editor dialog box.
• To load an external .PAT file, select Other in the Pattern drop-down list and use the Select Hatch Pattern
dialog box.

• Hatch patterns can be individually assigned to material styles.
• To edit hatching in a section view, right-click and select Edit and use the Edit Hatch Pattern dialog box.

• Changes to the Hatch style are reflected in all existing hatched objects.
• Overrides to a hatched section are independent of the Hatch style and remain unchanged if the style is
changed.
• Hatch patterns (or fill) can be assigned to a closed sketched section in a drawing by clicking (Hatch/Fill
Region) on the Sketch tab and selecting a closed area in the sketch.
• Controlled by the Sketch Hatch object in the Object Defaults item style.
• To clip hatching around overlapping text, ensure that Cross Hatch Clipping is enabled in the Drawing
tab in Document Settings.
