Post Lab Report exp 5

The post lab report details the results of a 3-point bend test conducted on treated and untreated glass samples to determine their strength using Weibull distribution. The treated sample exhibited a higher characteristic strength of 100.70 MPa compared to 87.74 MPa for the untreated sample, attributed to the replacement of smaller sodium ions with larger potassium ions, enhancing compressive strength. The report includes experimental data, calculations, and a combined graph illustrating the findings.

Conclusion:
The characteristic strength of the treated sample is higher than that of the Untreated
sample because the smaller sodium ions in the glass (Na+) are replaced by the
larger ions (K+) from the KNO3 when the glass is immersed in it at higher
temperatures. The larger ions create compressive strength on the surface which
increases its characteristic strength.
