Resetting Calculator

 Start by choosing 2nd MEM

 Select #7 Reset
 Choose Defaults if you simply want to return the calculator to the factory settings, such as Radian
mode, Normal setting, Full screen, etc. Default will not erase programs or applications.

Go Back to Starting Screen Press 2nd then QUIT

Clear screen Press CLEAR

Working with Fractions

Press ALPHA and F1 (look for the Y = button). Make a choice and use arrow keys to navigate.

Choose # 1 Choose #2
(fraction) (Mixed Number)

Choosing #3 will convert an entry or a previous answer to a mixed number or an improper fraction.

Making Tables
Put limits on the table: Press 2ND then TBLSET (look for WINDOW button)

TblStart = -2 (x values start at -2)

Tbl = 1 (it goes up by 1’s versus 5’s or 10’s)

Leave other options as AUTO

Type equation: Press Y=

y = 2x2 – 2: 2 then X,T,O,n then x2 then – then 2 then ENTER

Equal sign MUST BE HIGHLIGHTED or it won’t make

a table. Pressing ENTER will highlight or take the highlight
away.

Create Table: Press 2ND then TABLE

Use  or  to scroll up and down

Your Turn

A) y = -4x + 5 B) y = |x – 8|+ 2 C) y = 3x2 + 7 D) y = 25x + 500

Making Graphings FYI: To choose the viewing window in

standard 10 by 10 form. Press ZOOM
then 6.
Set up x’s and y’s: Press WINDOW

Xmin = -1 (smallest x value)

Xmax = 5 (largest x value)
Xscl = 1 (scale - counting by 1’s)
Y-min = -10 (smallest y-value)
Y max = 10 (largest y-value)
Yscl = 1 (scale – counting by 1’s)

Type equation: Press Y=

y = x2 – 4x: X,T,O,n then x2 then – then 4 then X,T,O,n then ENTER

Equal sign MUST BE HIGHLIGHTED or it won’t make x2 – 4x

a table. Pressing ENTER will highlight or take the highlight
away.

FYI: The symbol to the far left of the

equation indicates the style of
graph you will see. To change these
options, move to the far left and hit
ENTER. With each hit, another
choice will appear. If you go past an
option, keep hitting ENTER and it
will reappear.

Solving Equations by Graphing

Example 1: Solve for x: 4x + 1 = 9

 Enter the left side of the equation into Y1.

 Enter the right side of the equation into Y2.
 Graph (you may need to adjust your window to see where the two graphs intersect)
 Find the point of intersection (the answer).
(2nd CALC (above TRACE), #5 Intersect)

 Answer: x = 2

Example 2: Solve for x: 2x + 4 = 5x - 2

 Answer: x = 2

Write Equation Given Two Points

Ex1: Write the equation of the line passing

through the points A(2,-5) and B(4,1).

1. Choose STAT then Press #1 (Edit. . .)

Enter the points into lists L1 and L2.

Be careful to keep the x and corresponding y coordinates lined up

horizontally.

2. Choose STAT. Arrow to the right to CALC at the top of the screen.
Choose #4:LinReg(ax+b) then Enter

3. Hitting ENTER will show the screen at the right. "a" is the slope, and
"b" is the y-intercept.
