EVOLUTION OF COMMUNICATION
Communication has improved and evolved to facilitate our daily activities. In the
21st century, everything related to communication utilizes technology to ‘send
out’ or disseminate information to a wider audience. Information can be ‘sent out’

WHAT IS INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT)?

 As we know, computer technology is called information technology, which
process data and provides information and telecommunication. This is the
technology of sending data and message over long distance.
 ICT can be defined as the set of technological tools and resources used to
communicate create, disseminate, store, and manage information. These
technologies include computers, internet, broadcasting technologies and
telephony.
 ICT is the technology required for information processing, in particular, the use of
electronic computers, communication devices and software applications to
convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information from anywhere,
anytime.

INFORMATION refers to the knowledge obtained from reading, investigation,

study or research.

The tools to transmit information are the telephone, television and radio.

We need information to make decisions and to predict the future. For example,
scientists can detect the formation of a tsunami using the latest technology and
warn the public to avoid disasters in the affected areas.

Information is knowledge and it helps us to fulfill our daily tasks. For example,
forecasting the stock exchange market.

COMMUNICATION is an act of transmitting messages. It is a process whereby

information is exchanged between individuals using symbols, signs or verbal
interactions. Previously, people communicated through sign or symbols,
performing drama and poetry. With the advent of technology, these ‘older’ forms
of communication are less utilised as compared to the use of the Internet, e-mail
or video conferencing.

Communication is important in order to gain knowledge. With knowledge, we are

more confident in expressing our thoughts and ideas.

TECHNOLOGY is the use of scientific knowledge, experience and resources to

create processes and products that fulfill human needs. Technology is vital in
communication.

USES OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

The development of ICT has made our life easier and comfortable. Due to the
development of ICT, the world has changed into the small global village. Today a

his/her computer. We can attend our virtual class using the internet through ICT. Ict
has helped in each sector of our life.
ICT also includes the various services ang application associated with them, such as
learning, that plays a vital role in the creation of new media modes of interaction
between people There are lotsof uses of ICTs in everyday life. Some uses of ICT in
various fields are as follows:

industrial sector, workers, researchers and administrator benefits from the usage of
ICT.

Workers use machines that are connected to computers to operate. In some

productions, robots are used to take over jobs that are dangerous to the workers.
Researchers use computers to analyse and collect research data for future
reference.
Administrators use computers to oversee the entire operations in the plant or factory
to detect specific errors or defects that occurred in the process.
