Read the following text and answer the questions given below.
(1) Charles thought that he didn’t believe in such things as bad omens, until two weeks ago,
when he had the following experience. He got up in the morning and set about his usual
daily routine. It was an important day for him because he was to present a report on his
research project to his committee of advisers at the University. If they liked his report, he
would be accepted as a degree candidate.
(2) As Charles was about to leave the house, he heard a loud noise that was caused by a flock of
crows in a large tree near the house. They were cawing and squawking , obviously very
disturbed about something. He didn’t pay much attention, but when he opened the gate ,
there on the ground was a dead crow! He stepped over it in disgust, proceeding on his way.
A thought crossed his mind briefly about omens, and specially about the importance of the
first thing you encounter when you leave your house.
(3)When he reached the University, he found that the most important member of the committee
had not come because she was sick. It was decided that Charles should present his report ,
and when he began he realised that he had left all his notes at home! The meeting turned out
