COURSEOBJECTIVES: The course will be aimed at enabling the students to understand the global business scenario. The course will be immensely beneficially to the students making their career in export/import businesses. PRE-REQUISITES: NIL COURSE CONTENTS: Sr. Description No. 1 International Business and Global business; unified framework; global business and globalization. 2 World trade: an overview; Indias foreign trade; Gains from international trade; concepts of balance of payments 3 Formal and informal institutions; political system, legal system and economic system, Cultures, ethics and norms; classification and challenges; social structure; religious and ethical system; culture and the work place; ethical issues in the international business. 4 Theories of international trade: Absolute, comparative, product life cycle, strategic trade; national competitive advantage; implications for managers 5 Realities of international trade: Tariff barriers, non tariff barriers, trade deficit vs trade surplus MTE 6 Foreign Direct Investment: Introduction, types, theories of international investment and pattern; realities of FDI 7 Foreign exchange markets: Introduction, nature, Foreign exchange rates: concept, theories, factor behind foreign exchange rates 8 Introduction to WTO, WTO agreements: an overview; emerging issues; WTO and developing countries. 9 Preferential treatment agreements(PTAs): Introduction; framework; growth of regional trade agreements; Indias participation in PTAs; limitations 10 Multinational Enterprises: Introduction, types; impact of MNEs on host economies; emerging MNEs from developing economies.
