Ex Show that following system of equations has unique solution.

Find its solution by the reduction method.
x+y+z =2,
X-2y+z=8,
3x+ y+z=4
Solution : We write the given system of equations in matrix equation as :

Ex. In AABC prove that :
+c-b')tanß =(b' +a' -c )tanC
(e +b-a')ran4 -(a'
Solution : By Cosine Rule, =b+e-2bc cos A
b² =c'+a'-2ca cos B
c=a+b? -2abcos C
Consider the expression (e+b -a )tanA,
sin A
(e'+b-a' )tan 4= 2bc cos Ax COS A

(c'+b?-a )tand =2abck ... (1)

Similarly we can prove that
(a +e'-b² JranB =2abck .(2)

(b° +a'-c )tanC =2abck .(3)

From (1), (2) and (3), we get
(c'+b' -a' )tanA=(a te -b]tanB =(b +a'-c)tanc

Ex. Check the validity of the Rolle's theorem for the functionf(x) =x'
4x +1.Find allvalues of cin the interval (-2, 2) such thatf" (c)= 0.
Solution : Given that f(x)=x - 4x +1... (I)
f (r) is a polynomial which is continuous on [ -2, 2] and it is
differentiable on (-2, 2)
Let a= -2 and b=2
For x=a=-2 from (I) we get,
f(a) =f(2) = (-2) - 4(-2) +1=-8 +8+1=1
For x =b=2 from ()we get,
f(b) =f(2) =(2 - 4(2) + 1=8-8+1 =1
So, heref(a) =f(b) ie.f(-2) =f(2) =1
Hence conditions of Rolle's theorem are satisfied. So, there exists
c e(-2, 2) such thatf' (c) =0.
Differentiating() w. r. t. x.
f' ()=3x- 4..f'(c) =3c²- 4
Now, f' (c) =0’3² -4 =0’c=t 2
2 2
and c, = 3Aboth belong to(-2, 2).
