P.K Slab

The document outlines the design specifications for a two-way slab with specific input data including unit weights, live loads, and dimensions. It details the calculations for required reinforcement, deflection checks, and strength criteria, concluding that the design is safe. Reinforcement recommendations include Y8 bars at specified spacings for both x and y directions, along with torsion reinforcement provisions at corners.

Support condition(simply or continuous) :
Type of the panel=

Unit weight of concrete (gconc) = 25 kN/m3

Unit weight of floor finish = 24 kN/m3
Unit weight of Ceiling Plastering (gcp) = 20 kN/m3
Live load = 2.5 kn/m2
Thickness of floor finish= 40 mm
Thickness of celing plastering= 10 mm
Grade of concrete M- 25 N/mm2
Grade of steel =Fe- 500 N/mm2
Panel ………..All floor slabs 4750
1)c/c span of slab panel
a)longer span: 4750 mm
b)shorter span: 3875 mm
2)width of support : 250 mm

h3=modification factor depending upon 3875

steel= 2
(considering pt.=0.37% & fs=145 N/mm2 )
Clear cover = 20 mm 250
Dia of bar= 8 mm

Dreqd………………… 98.52 mm
Dpro………………….115 mm
Check for deflection:
fs = 0.58*fy*(Ast reqd/Ast pro) = 103.92 N/sq.mm
pt pro. = 0.44 % (percentage of tension reinforcement)
Value of modification factor =h3= 2 (from fig. 4 of IS 456:2000)

Overall comment = safe

Results:
Hence, at bottom of mid span in x-direction provide Y8 bar @ 125 c/c
at top of the support in x-direction provide Y8 bar @ 125 c/c
at bottom of midspan in y-direction provide Y 8 bar @ 150 c/c.
at top of the support in y-direction provide Y8 bar @ 150 c/c
Overall depth provided = 115 mm
DESIGN OF TWO WAY SLAB

Support condition : continuous

Type of the panel= 3)One long edge discontinuous

Grade of concrete M- 25 N/mm2

Grade of steel =Fe- 500 N/mm2
4750
1)c/c span of slab panel
a)longer span: 4750 mm
b)shorter span: 3875 mm
2)width of support : 250 mm
Calculation:
Clear span: 3875
a)longer span: 4500 mm
b)shorter span: 3625 mm
250
Approximate depth of slab:
deff.=span/(h1*h2*h3)

Span= c/c shorter span which ever

or clear shorter span+deff. less

At first take span of panel=c/c shorter span= 3875 mm

where, h1= basic value of eff. Span to eff. Depth ratio= 26
h2= factor for span more than 10 m= 1
h3= modification factor depending upon steel= 2 IS 456:2000
(consider pt=0.12%& fs=240n/mm2) cl-23.2.1
deff.= 74.52
Over all depth=D=deff.+clear cover+0.5*dia. Of bar= 98.52
(clear cover= 20 mm
dia of bar= 8 mm )
Over all depth provided= 115 mm safe
deff x pro.= 91 mm
deff.y pro.= 83 mm
shorter span=lx= c/c shorter span= 3875 mm whichever
or clear shorter span+deff.= 3716 mm is less

= 3716 mm
longer span=ly= c/c longer span= 4750 mm whichever
or clear longer span+deff.= 4591 mm is less
= 4591 mm
Now, ly lx= 1.24
So, the panel of the slab is a two way slab
Load calculation:
2
Self weight of slab = (115 / 1000) x 25 = 2.88 kN/m
2
Weight due to Plastering = (10 / 1000) x 20 = 0.20 kN/m
2
Weight due to floor finish = (40 / 1000) x 24 = 0.96 kN/m
2
Live Load Intensity ( wL ) As per Spec = 2.50 kN/m

2
Total dead+live load intensity = 6.54 kN/m

(Factor used 1.5)

Total factored load for limit state design w= 9.81 kn/m2

Calculation of B.M
(+ve ax)= 0.0408
(-ve ax)= 0.0538 IS 456:2000
(+ve ay)= 0.0280 table 26
(-ve ay)= 0.0370
2
a) Moment in shorter direction: (w*a*lx )
2
1) Midspan moment=w*(+ax)*lx = 5.523 kn.m
2
2) Support moment=w*(-ax)*lx = 7.284 kn.m
b) Moment in longer direction:
2
1) Midspan moment=w*(+ay)*lx = 3.793 kn.m
2
2) Support moment=w*(-ay)*lx = 5.012 kn.m

Maximum moment= 7.28 kn.m

Check for strength criteria:

dreqd.= 46.29 mm
deff x. pro.= 91 mm Hence Safe
for strength criteria.

Calculation of steel:
a) Steel in short direction:

2) Steel at support= 192.13 sq.mm
b) Steel in longer direction: {S max=300 or
1) Steel at midspan= 107.86 sq.mm 3d, whichever less }
2) Steel at support= 143.80 sq.mm S max.= 273 mm
spacing of distribution reinf =5d or 450mm whichever is less

Midspan 8 348.84 125 364.24 150
