Chapter -1
1. Communication : It is a means of exchanging idea, opinion, thoughts or information among people.
2. Methods of communication: There are three methods of communication
A. Verbal
B. Non-verbal
C. Visual

3. Verbal involves the use of words in delivering the intended message, the information is exchanged with the help
of spoken words.

4. There are two primary forms of verbal communication

 Oral communication
 Written communication
 Oral communication is the most natural form of communication, the biggest advantage of oral
communication is that it provides immediate feedback, it is a time saving method of communication, in this
method both gets the chance to interact with other face to face and it helps to build good relations.
 Disadvantage of oral communication is:
o It is not professional and formal
o In this emotions are visible
o It has no permanent record of communication
 The factors that determines the effectiveness of oral communication are:

o Pace o Volume and o Fluency of


o Clarity in pitch communication

 Written communication : It involves sending messages in the form of written words to convey information,
it a most formal method of communication like chats, WhatsApp, email, letters are written form of
communication.
 Advantages of written comm:

 Non verbal communication: it is a method of communication without the use of words, we can also say that
it is a sign language.it helps to make verbal communication effective, it includes our facial expressions, body
language, eye contact and use of hands and fingers.
 Advantages of non verbal communication:
o It complements a verbal message
o With gesture and sign easy for differently abled people to understand the message
 Advantages of non verbal communication:
o Sometimes the message can be mis understood and difficult to interpret
o It is not suitable for long conversation
 Visual communication : any verbal or non verbal communication utilizing the sense of sight is known as
visual communication, it involves the use of graphs, charts,maps, ppts, smart boards, projectors etc.
 Advantages of visual communication:
o It makes data more meaningful
o It makes complex data easy to understand
o It makes communication more interesting
 Dis Advantages of visual communication:
o Sometimes it is costly method of communication
o Presentation of information needs time to arrange and present the complex data
o It requires visual techniques and knowledge of equipments.

COMMUNICATION BARRIERS-:
A communication barrier is anything that prevents us from receiving and understanding the messages others use to
convey their information, ideas and thoughts.
If a message is not understood clearly, it may lead to communication gaps, causing confusion and misunderstanding.
Types of communication barriers
There are many barriers that Hinder our ability to communicate. we will now learn about its type of the area and the
various factor causing them.
1. Barriers related to the formation of message-:
o lengthy or complicated message
o Linguistic issues
o Inconsistent tone or non-verbal communication
for example,
if you are watching a Hollywood movie, The actor speak English in an American ascent, I am sometimes you may
not be able to understand what they are saying for stop this type of problems are related to the message that is being
conveyed.

2. Internal Barriers-:
o Fatigue, disinterest, or excitement
o Poor listening skills
 Emotional barriers : Some people find it difficult to express their emotions approximately during
communication.
Example-: A worried person cannot communicate properly, and an Angry recipient cannot understand the
message correctly.. Thus, at the time of communication, both the sender and the receiver need to be in the
right frame of mind psychologically.
o Difference in perception and viewpoint
o Prejudice or bias
Cultural differences : for example, making eye contact is considered a good communication technique in the
US, but in most Asian countries, making eye contact with a senior person is considered to be disrespectful.
3. External Barriers-: External barriers occur due to factors we have no control over and over outside our body
and mind. factors like knows, different time zones and distance
o Noise and other distractions
o Physical barriers between communicators
o Physical disabilities

PERSPECTIVE IN COMMUNICATION

Perspective is an individual's point of view through


which we are interpret and understand every
communication and event happening around us.
Different peoples have different perspectives as
everyone sees differently from others. we convey and
interpret messages through the filters of our
knowledge, beliefs and motives.

FACTORS AFFECTING PERSPECTIVES IN COMMUNICATION

VISUAL PERSPECTIVE

Visual perspectives refers to our tendency to focus only on the parts of a


situation that we want to see and notice.
Most of our visual perceptions are judgements that we make about people we are
communicating with. Some of the judgements that we make about are:

 Qualification of the person


 Mental capability of the person
 Position and the financial status of the person

1. What is the internet ? write its applications

The internet is a global system of interconnected computers that enables the users to share information and
various resources with each other. Various applications are: email, chat ,blog ,e shopping, e learning etc.

2. What is the World Wide Web?


World Wide Web or ‘www’ is a collection of webpages which can easily be published on the Internet and read
by millions of its users. To know the difference between World Wide Web (www) and Internet, candidates can visit
the linked article.

3. Difference between website and web page.

The webpage is a single document on the web using a unique URL, while a website is a collection of
multiple webpages in which information on a related topic or another subject

4. What is a Web Browser?


A web browser is a software application for accessing the information on the World Wide Web. The commonly
used web browsers include Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.

5. Define URL. Explain its parts with the help of an example

URL is an acronym for Uniform Resource Locator and is a reference (an


address) to a resource on the Internet. In simple words it is an address or link.
A URL has two main components: Protocol identifier: For the URL
http://example.com , the protocol identifier is http . Resource name: For the
URL http://example.com , the resource name is example.com .

What are the two parts of an E-mail


address? Briefly explain each of them.
The two parts of an E-mail address are the User Name and Domain
Name.
User Name: It is the name of a person’s account, which can be an
actual name or an alphanumeric string
Domain Name: It is the location of the person’s account on the
Internet separated by a period (It is actually the website name of
the e-mail service provider). (e.g., com stands for a commercial
organization).

conventional mails?
e-mail (i.e. Electronic Mail) proves to be the biggest asset in sending
and receiving messages from one computer to another.
It allows us to communicate quickly with people around the world at
any time. E-mail is an economical mode of communication. It
facilitates you to send the same message to more than 100 people
at the cost of a local phone call. It also helps in reducing the
wastage of paper. E-mail sends message instantly without reaching
wrong destination with different mode of messages like text,
images, videos, audios, etc. Other advantages over conventional
mails are nominal cost, accessed anywhere at any time with
Internet and Computer or mobile devices, and many more.

What are the parts of an E-mail?


Parts of an E-mail are Subject, Sender or From, Recipient or To, Cc
(Carbon Copy), Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy). Salutation, Message,
Closing, and Signature.

CC stands for carbon copy, in this field one can specify the addresses of the person to whom one wants to send a
copy of mail.
