ECE-101: Fundamentals of Electronics Tutorial sheet for EE4, EE5, EE6

Tutorial 5: Sequential Circuit, State diagrams, Registers, Counters

Date: 31st October 2023, Time: 1200 hours to 1300 hours, Place: GB-313 and GB 314
Instructions:
• Solve the question with your own efforts prior to coming to the tutorial class.
• Your doubts and queries related to the questions will be addressed in the tutorial class.
Questions: (1st Question is your assignment which needs to be submitted on 30th Oct.)

1. A PN flip-flop has four operations: clear to 0, no change, complement, and set to 1 when inputs P
and N are 00, 01, 10, and 11, respectively.
(a) Tabulate the characteristic table.
(b) Derive the characteristic equation.
(c) Tabulate the excitation table.
(d) Show how the PN flip-flop can be converted to a D flip-flop.

2. Derive the state table for the following circuit. Use the assignments
A = 00, B = 01, C = 10, and D = 11. (T flip flop or toggle flip flop is when we connect J
and K together.)
