CHAPTER ONE
1.1. Background of Organization and overview
The Halaba zone ICT center is one of Central Ethiopia region ICT center which established in 2001.
This ICT center is located in Central Ethiopia region, Halaba zone ICT center, in kulito town which
is 243.7KM far from Addis Ababa to the south.

The company was set up after seeing the weakness of the area at the side of ICT networking and
other technological issues. The Halaba zone Information and communication technology center
(ICTC) team provides the primary management and support for computer and computer services
within the region. ICTC manages the wired and wireless network infrastructure.

It was starting its function firstly with 5 workers, nowadays it has 12 workers from these 8 are male
workers and 4 are female workers. This ICT center is established for the purpose of giving good
administration and communication for the society and to transfer information from one office to
other office.

1.2. EVALUATION OF HOSTING COMPANY

In case of training, supervision, task given, feedback, environment and personnel I have seen for
two month this organization have some strength and weakness.

As the weakness:

➢ There are no enough employee in the organization.

➢ No sufficient material and peripheral equipment’s for maintenance and network
installation.
➢ The manager can’t hardly control the employees.
➢ This office did not have sufficient worker to manage to the office work and to give
good practice for students.
➢ No sufficient computer room.
As the strength:

➢ They give for us good advice and directing in which we are confusing.
➢ They give different comment and orientation on our documents.
➢ The environment we had taken for this practice can be best and well.
➢ The society and someone who around there and employees have good attitude for
us.

For students who can arrived to this organization, this organization maybe fulfill the
limitless what we have seen some lack above, so students if arrived to this organization,
they get more knowledge as we estimate it.

As I compere the industrial the industrial practice we had learn and seen in the course they have
closely related.
During this practice I had get some skill, task, activity, knowledge and information as benefit are:
➢ I had get more knowledge and information more than before.
➢ I had develop our communication skill more than before etc.

2
1.3. EVALUATION OF INDUSTRIAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE
Comparison of Classroom Learning and Industrial Practice Experience:
➢ Classroom learning provided theoretical knowledge, while the industrial practice
experience offered practical application in real-world scenarios.
➢ The industrial practice experience enriched understanding and reinforced concepts
learned in the classroom.

Benefits of Industrial Practice Experience:

➢ Bridging Theory and Practice: Industrial practice bridges the gap between theoretical
knowledge gained in the classroom and its practical application in real-world settings.
➢ Skill Development: The industrial practice allows for the development of practical
skills, problem-solving abilities, and industry-specific knowledge.
➢ Exposure to Industry Practices: Students gain exposure to actual industry practices,
tools, technologies, and work environments during the industrial practice.

During the industrial practice experience, I was most impressed by the hands-on learning
opportunities and the chance to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world situations. It was
rewarding to work on actual projects and see how concepts learned in the classroom translated into
practical solutions.

On the other hand, what I liked the least about my industrial practice was the initial adjustment
period to the work environment and the fast-paced nature of tasks. It took some time to acclimate
to the specific dynamics of the industry and the demands of the projects, but with time and guidance,
I was able to overcome these challenges.

During the industrial practice experience, the most difficult activity or adjustment for me was
adapting to the fast-paced work environment and the high expectations of the industry. It required
quick decision-making, effective time management, and the ability to work under pressure to meet
deadlines and deliver quality results.

In terms of meeting my learning objectives, I believe I was able to achieve them through
perseverance, dedication, and seeking guidance from mentors and colleagues. To accomplish each
learning objective, I engaged in various experiences, tasks, skills, and activities:

1. Learning Objective: Develop project management skills.

➢ Experiences: Participating in project meetings, creating project plans, and tracking
progress.
➢ Tasks: Leading small project teams, coordinating tasks, and ensuring project milestones
are met.
➢ Skills: Communication, time management, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement.

2. Learning Objective: Enhance technical skills in a specific area.

➢ Experiences: Working on hands-on projects related to the specific technical area.
➢ Tasks: Researching new technologies, implementing solutions, and troubleshooting issues.
➢ Skills: Technical proficiency, critical thinking, innovation, and continuous learning.

3
3. Learning Objective: Improve teamwork and collaboration skills.
➢ Experiences: Collaborating with team members on projects and initiatives.
➢ Tasks: Sharing knowledge, providing support, and receiving feedback from peers.
➢ Skills: Team communication, conflict resolution, adaptability, and fostering a positive
team environment.

By actively engaging in these experiences, tasks, skills, and activities, I was able to successfully
meet my learning objectives and gain valuable insights and practical knowledge during my
industrial practice experience.

During my industrial practice focused on network installation, I had the opportunity to work on
several significant tasks related to my major profession. Some of the key tasks I performed include:

✓ Planning and designing network layouts for different clients based on their requirements.
✓ Installing and configuring routers, switches, access points, and other networking devices.
✓ Setting up VLANs, VPNs, and ensuring network security protocols are in place.
✓ Testing and troubleshooting network connections to ensure optimal performance.
✓ Documenting network configurations and providing technical support to end-users.

Through these tasks, I was able to develop and enhance several new skills that have been invaluable
to my professional growth. Some of the skills I learned during my industrial practice in network
installation include:

✓ Hands-on experience with network hardware installation and configuration.

✓ Troubleshooting network issues and identifying solutions quickly.
✓ Collaborating with team members and communicating effectively with clients.
✓ Implementing network security measures to protect data and prevent unauthorized
access.
✓ Documenting network designs and configurations accurately for future reference.

These skills were further reinforced by my coursework in networking and related subjects, such as
Network Design and Implementation, Network Security, and Routing and Switching. The hands-
on experience gained during my industrial practice helped me apply the theoretical knowledge
gained in these courses to real-world scenarios, making me a more competent and skilled
professional in the field of network installation.

4
1.4. SELF-EVALUATION

In terms of professional strengths, my experience in network installation industrial practice has

allowed me to develop strong technical skills in network design, installation, and troubleshooting.
I have also honed my ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively
communicate with clients and colleagues. My attention to detail and problem-solving skills have
been further enhanced through hands-on experience in network maintenance and configuration.

However, one of my weaknesses that I have identified is the need to further improve my time
management skills, especially when it comes to handling multiple tasks simultaneously. To address
this, I plan to implement better prioritization techniques and utilize tools such as task management
software to streamline my workflow.

The industrial practice experience has reinforced the importance of professional ethics in the
workplace, emphasizing the need for honesty, integrity, and responsibility in all interactions. It has
also highlighted the significance of maintaining client confidentiality and upholding industry
standards in the field of network installation.

This experience has not significantly changed my opinion regarding the type of organization I
would like to work in, as I have always valued a work environment that fosters growth, learning,
and innovation. However, it has reinforced my preference for organizations that prioritize employee
development and encourage a collaborative and supportive culture.

In terms of utilizing the skills learned in the program, I plan to apply my expertise in network
installation to pursue opportunities in roles such as network engineer, network administrator, or IT
specialist. By leveraging my knowledge and experience, I aim to contribute effectively to the
success of organizations and take on challenging projects that allow me to further refine my skills.

As for educational goals, while the industrial practice experience has not led to significant changes
in my current educational path, it has inspired me to continue seeking opportunities for professional
development and further specialization in the field of networking. I may consider pursuing
certifications or advanced courses to enhance my expertise and stay current with industry trends
and advancements.

NETWORK INSTALLATION

1. INTRODUCTION
In an increasingly connected world, robust and reliable network infrastructure has become essential
for organizations of all sizes. A well-designed network not only facilitates seamless communication
within an organization but also supports data management, remote access, and enhanced
operational efficiency. Network installation projects aim to design, implement, and optimize
networks that meet specific organizational needs in terms of speed, security, scalability, and
reliability.
As organizations expand, they face increasing demands on their network infrastructure. Issues such
as network congestion, outdated equipment, and security vulnerabilities hinder productivity and
data security. For many businesses, the lack of a well-planned network installation can result in
performance bottlenecks, operational delays, and increased cybersecurity risks. In this context, a
structured network installation project addresses these issues by analyzing existing requirements
and designing a network that aligns with current and future organizational goals.
Network installation projects are foundational to the digital transformation journey. By addressing
current and anticipated networking needs, organizations can ensure they have the flexibility to scale
and adapt to technological advancements. The justification for this study lies in its potential to

5. RESULT & DISCUSSION

During my internship at the Halaba Zone ICT center, I experienced significant personal and
professional growth. This opportunity boosted my self-confidence and enhanced both my
theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Additionally, it allowed me to effectively communicate and collaborate with various professionals

within the system. The internship was also highly beneficial for the company. Due to the
institution's busy nature, there was a shortage of human resources.
Our presence helped alleviate this issue in several ways, contributing to the smooth operation of
the department.

In our stay of practical attachment, we have seen or get experience from the practical attachment is
listed as follow.

➢ We have seen how the existing system can work properly.

➢ They Relate theories that in learn in my course to practical aspects.
➢ We got the knowledge of how to work with the employees in a peaceful way.
➢ I improve my communication skills with workers.
➢ We adapted the working environment of the profession.

Overall, the internship was a mutually beneficial experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there,
and it proved to be extremely valuable for both the interns and the organization.

17
6. CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATION
6.1 Conclusion
Generally the internship attachment describes or worries about wired Local area network of Halaba
Zone ICT center which practically studies which includes the background, introduction, objective,
proposed design of the local area network of Halaba Zone ICT center. From the internship program,
I get some knowledge about wired network configuration, which is local area network. During
summer internship program, I understand what seems like the theoretical part especially computer
networking before I learned practical part.

And also in the internship attachment how the local area network distribute to each building that is
come from the ethio telecom this means that the internet that is come from the ethiotelecom by
fiber optic cable this fiber optic cable that carry the internet is first connect with media converter
which converts the fiber cable to the LAN cable. And that LAN cable connect to the Router 4300
series and this connect with switch by LAN cable is called trunking and the layer 3 switch distribute
the internet to the different building by fiber optic cable and canopy wireless broadband platform.
From the internship I understand the purpose of network configuration it is used to maintain and
manage remotely that means when the network get a problem then the person can correct the
network without going to the place that the problem is occurred.
In summer internship, I understand the advantage of Halaba Zone ICT center networks dived in to
different VLAN. And also I see all networking tools use in Halaba Zone ICT center network
installation and configuration and I differentiate all networking device and their purpose for wired
network configuration.

6.1. Recommendation
During summer internship attachment period I have seen some positive and negative sides about
the internship hosting company. In this part of my report, I will try to suggest some ideas for my
internship recommendation.

The internship program hold benefits to the field supervisor and hosting company by providing
motivated workers with no or relatively small cost to an organization and furnishing the opportunity
to train possible future employees for the organization. Participating in internship program allows
the field supervisor and organization to maintain a working relationship with the university in which
I have enrolled. In several cases, special projects can be accomplished more inexpensively by using
student expertise. Therefore, I suggest that, the company should host more intern students in the
future for the common good of the student and its company and the company accept us positively.

18
Having an internship offers a list of advantages to the students, as mentioned above, for instance,
they help me to grow not only practical experience and knowledge related to my academic and
