Dear Diary

Today was an amazing day! My family and I went to the zoo, and I saw so many incredible animals. The lions were my
favorite because they looked so powerful. We saw elephants splashing water with their trunks and a group of playful
otters swimming in their pond. We also saw the giraffe and it ate leaves right out of our hands. We also watched a
playful monkey swinging on the ropes. We had an ice cream before heading home and I felt so happy spending the day

Dear Diary

What an amazing day it has been! Today our school organized a picnic and it was a day filled with so much fun and
laughter. We went to a riverside park and the bus ride to the destination was also fun-filled. The park was green and sunny
and the river sparkled. We played tug of war, a treasure hunt and relay race. our team won the tug of war, and I felt so
happy! My mother had made a dozen sandwiches and a cake for the picnic. My friends also brought some food, and we
all shared, ate and played. Later, we sat by the river, skipped stones and listened to stories. It was peaceful and fun. I will
always remember this wonderful day.

11. axis
12. disappear
13. information
14. scientist
15. temperature

B. Answer the following questions.

Q1. How can you say that the shape of the Earth is not flat?
A1. If we stand at the seashore and watch a ship sailing away from us, we will observe that the lower
part of the ship disappears first and the top part disappears last. This is because the Earth is round.
Q2. What is rotation? What does it cause on the Earth?
A2. The spinning of the Earth about its axis is called rotation. It causes day and night on the Earth.
Q3. With the help of diagram, describe how day and night are caused.
A3.
Rotation of the Earth
When the Earth rotates on its own axis, one half of the Earth faces the sun. So, its day time on that
half of the Earth. At the same time, the other half of the Earth is away from the sun. So, it is night
time on that half of the Earth.
Q4. Define revolution. How long does the Earth take to complete one revolution?
A4. The movement of the Earth around the sun in a fixed orbit is called revolution. It takes 365 days and
a few hours to complete one revolution, which is also known as a year.
Q5. What is communication? Name any five means of communication commonly used in today's
time.
A5. The process by which we share ideas, thoughts and information is called communication. Mobile,
radio, television, books and newspaper are some commonly used means of communication.

C. HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills)

Q1. Why does the Sun seem to disappear at night?
A1. Since the Earth is sphere and rotates on its axis, one half of it always faces the sun while the other
half is away from the sun. Thus, it is day time on the side of the Earth that faces the sun and the night
at the side away from the sun.
Q2. How can cycling short distances help on controlling air pollution?
A2. Cycling short distances helps reduce air pollution because bicycles do not release harmful gases like
cars and motorcycles do. By choosing to cycle instead of driving, fewer vehicles are on the road,
which means less pollution and cleaner air.

D. Scientific Skill
Q1. Draw and label the revolution of Earth.
