Rhino Tutorial 2d-Export
Rhino Tutorial 2d-Export
AutoCAD
To Export a 2d Axonometric Drawing, we need to change the camera from perspective to
parallel projection to get a true axonometric view. To do this: In the file you are wanting to
export from, go to View-Viewport Properties and click.
This brings up the viewport properties box in which we can change the selection from
perspective to parallel. Once done, you can exit the box.
Now our view is in parallel projection. To create a view we will want to draw, move and/or
orbit the model to the desired orientation and go to View-Set View-Show Named Views
Panel to create our own view.
Add Named View
This brings up the Named View box, click the add new view and name it what you want
and hit enter. This will create our own view we can restore at any time by clicking the re-
store button in the bottom right of the box. Once done you can exit the box.
Now we can create our drawing we will export. In the desired view type “Make2d” in the
command line and hit enter.
It then gives us a prompt to select what we want for the program to draw.
Select the object you want to draw and hit enter.
This will bring up the 2D drawing options box. Here we can change what we want to be drawn
or not drawn. I do not want hidden lines or tangent edges so they are deselected. If you want
the layers in the model (walls, columns, Etc.) to be tranferred to the 2D Drawing you would
check the Maintain Source layers box. Once you have selected what you want, hit OK.
This will project the drawing onto the cplane we are currently using, Mine is on the bot-
tom. The drawing is under our model so I will want to move it before trying to export the
drawing out. To move the drawing: While it is still highlighted, type “move” into the com-
mand line.
This will let us select the point from which we want to move from. I just selected an edge
of the drawing.
Once you have selected the edge you can hold the shift button for ortho and move it in
the desired direction you wish to put the drawing. Once you have found the position you
want click the mouse button to set the drawing and exit the command.
Now we want to export the drawing to DWG format to be opened in autocad. To do this,
Go to File-Export Selected
Now we can select what we want the program to export. I am only going to select what I
want to be exported into DWG format, which is the drawing I just created.
Once you have selected your drawing hit enter or click done.
It will then bring up the export Box in which we can rename the file and tell it where to
export to. Make sure you specify you want it to export as an Autocad Drawing file(.dwg).
Once done hit enter or click OK.
It will then bring up an option for which export scheme we wish to use while exporting.
I am just going to leave it as the default. Then you can click export.
If done correctly, the file will appear where you specified it to export to. I told it to export to my desk-
top and here it is. From here, you will then bring the file into autocad by going to File-Open and then
selecting the file we have just exported from Rhino and clicking Open. It should then open up in Au-
tocad with no problems and we can begin making our changes to the file in Autocad.
