Declaration Collusion Essay

I understand that as a student, working in groups is difficult and one usually finds
their self-copying others’ work or submitting answers. This is my personal definition of
term collusion. According to McGowan (2016), collusion is “one of the most common
types of academic integrity breaches” where a student gets unfair advantage over other
students. There is no benefit in collusion because I might end up doing what someone
else did rather than gaining knowledge. If I allow my group mates to answer questions
while I sit back writing down the responses that I will hear for the first time, I will not
understand the subject matter. In the long run when I want to apply that knowledge for a
professional life or at least in real life.

Another disadvantageous of collusion is that my teachers and classmates will not

trust again. Suppose one is caught cheating, a teacher is likely to conclude that he or she
does not have seriousness in their studies. This could result in a bad grade or worse
outcome. There are several ways to perform the difficult assignments in a group, in an
ethical way. Rather than replicating the information, discussing it with other students
make it easier for everyone to comprehend the concept. Instead of copying we can divide
a group project into parts for every person with their own piece of o work. This way I get
to learn and maybe assist others too.

The Nottingham Business School like students to have good teamwork skill but
there are limitations of work together in a way that breaks the rules. Team work enable
the students to exchange ideas and knowledge and develop their skills that enable them
to create new ideas. But, it is very significant for students to understand the differences
in between collusion and appropriate group works. To exchange assignments that should
be individual or allowing a group member to complete a task for them is cheating. This is
not allowed because it reduces the student learning process and it is unfair to the other
students. The acceptable group work is though co-operation in honest and fair manner
without a violation of rules. As mentioned above, during group assignments each student
can tackle the part of the project that is manageable or several students can find ways of
explaining what is being taught in the class.

The school must make it easier to recognize this sort of differentiation and provide
students with some specific guidelines as to where boundaries lie in terms of what can
and cannot be done. Also teachers can do this during class. By using the reminder of
honest teamwork the students will understand better how they ought to work with their
fellow students.

In this essay we discussed why collusion negatively impact the future of students.
As much as teamwork is vital in showcasing talent and having the capacity to learn from
colleagues, there must be ethical ways. Acceptable group work is the work that should be
divided in some way or the discussions where everybody can learn a material without
passing it off as your own. The essay also discussed why NTU should inform students as

to the difference between cheating and collaboration through giving clear directions as
well as constant prompts.
